hi

i have four male guinea pigs (two are 2 1/2, and two are eleven months). they are all very healthy, but i would like to start a vet fund for if i ever have a need for it. my vet will let me put a credit at the clinic, so it's always there. i know vet bills can get really expensive, but i'm not sure what would be a good amount to have on hand. i live in bc, canada, so i don't know if that makes a difference, either. thanks for any advise you may have. :)

oh, and i prefer to do the vet credit (rather than a credit card or bank account) so that any other household emergencies will never cross over into their funds.

i wouldn't give it directly to the vet. i would open a savings account and put like 20 in every week.

Agreed with catlinbenosky, you never know if you are going to need to go to a specialist or someone besides your vet. If your vet sends you to a cardiologist then you won't have the money because your vet has it.

I always have $1,000 in my emergency fund. But, I try to keep as much as I can spare.

I have one pig and had to spend over 1K in less than 6 months of having her. Basically, my savings account is hers too for whatever happens, I'm going to pay for it unless she is in great pain and there is no hope type of thing in which I would put her down.

I have part of my paycheck go directly into a savings account so it's like I don't even know I had that money to begin with. It's like tricking myself, lol. I know the money is there if I ever need it (and I have recently for my sick piggies) but I don't see it in my paycheck deposit because it went into a different account.
