. . .to pay for a round of ivermectin? Toffee has lice and I took him to the vet today for the exam and 1st dose. I paid $22 for JUST the ivermectin. Is this reasonable? Should I ask if that includes the charge for the second dose???

Yes, the average Ivermectin dose is $10-$30. Yes, you should ask if that includes the second and third dose.

If I am not mistaken Ivermectin is not as effective for lice as it is for mites. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Yes, Pennick, I think your right. You can use Advantage for kittens, well, thats what is more used than ivermectin is used for lice.

Thanks guys, I will call and ask about the subsequent dose(s). I know ivermectin isn't AS effective for lice, but he may also have mites (he has a bald spot on his back in addition to the LIVE lice I found on him) so I'm hoping to kill two birds w/one stone, as it were.

When I call back I'll ask about the Advantage, and I forgot to ask about neutering. . .

you can use advantage for guinea pigs, my vet called the company that makes it and asked for me, however, it is a very small dose. Mine will only cost about $2 a month for each of my piggies (if I decide to use it).
I find that you paid a lot for Ivermectin, especially if that does not include all of the doses. Each round for my 4 piggies cost about $11 canadian, so that is like 6 or 7 dollars american for 4 piggies.
