A suggestion for hay storage might be one of those pop up hampers they sell. I put my wood shavings in one, it is made of a mesh type material which allows air circulation and for whatever is in there to breath. I was thinking of getting one for the hay. It is they accordian type looking hamper, that you can tie so that it is compact, and then when you untie it it pops up. Just a thought.

I recently bought the 25lbs of 1/2 bluegrass and 1/2 3rd cut timothy. It is a ton of hay and should last my 3 girls for 5 months. The 3rd cut timothy is to die for, my pigs love it so much, even more than the bluegrass.
I read somewhere about someone storing hay in a wicker clothing basket that is lined with a muslin type fabric. She said she keeps it filled near the cage and keeps the box of hay in the garage. I think I am going to try this idea because it would look nice near the cage and the fabric would help to keep the hay dry.

Around Halloween I bought my boys a new bale of hay, it was about a 75 ibs bale and it is only missing about 1/8 th of it. And they have a 2x2 hay room with big hayracks on eery wall and hay on the floor thats almost always full.

Me and my dad were at a feed store that sells oxbow and I believe on the back of the 48oz hay it tells you how long it should last with different multiples of guinea pigs or rabbits.

I buy a 9lb bag of hay and it lasts me at least 2-2.5 months and I have two gpigs right now. I asked the store where I get my hay from how much they can get in and they said 50lb bags, but not only do I not have a good area or way to store that it would take months for it to be gone and I would want it to be fresher and not have ne chance to get moldy if parts of it got wet somehow. I would say get as much as you can handle, because not only would it be hard to store more than you might be able to handle, if its not stored properly and parts get moldy, that would be a waste of good hay as well as money you used to spend on it.

With 11 piggies and 5 chinchillas, I go though alot of hay. I order about 100lbs or so every 6 months. When I get my order, I take the bag and flip it over into the box and poke holes in the box for ventalation. I order different kinds of hays. The chins eat Timothy 2nd cut and the piggies get the bluegrass, 3rd cut Timothy and 2nd cut sometimes. The Bluegrass is definately better for people who suffer allergies.
