General How Long Would It Take for Hereditary Diseases to Show Up?

Well, I've had my Piggy for five and a half months (according to the pet store, when I bought him he was three months old), and I was wondering if I was in the clear in terms of hereditary diseases. I heard that it's common for pet store pigs to have diseases caused by inbreeding or inherited by their parents.

I don't know how long it takes for them to show up, but my sister had a rabbit (being taken care of by mom) and she died for no reason two years after we got her :guilty:. I don't know if it was in her genes, but we weren't doing anything obviously wrong in her care (We kept her cage clean, took her to the vet every year, and fed her Oxbow bunny basics and veggies). Advice?

There's no way to know how long they'll take to show up. Some defects are apparent at birth, like lethal whites. Other conditions may show up at any time during the pig's life but never be identified as a genetic conditions. There's not much research on genetic conditions in guinea pigs, probably because there's not much, if any, money to made from the information.
