How far can guinea pigs see? One of our guinea pigs will sit in the garden and look at the window. He will then start to shout when he sees someone in the window.

Guinea pig vision is superior to that of most rodents in that they can distinguish colours. The fact that their eyes are on the sides of their head means that they have very poor depth perception (i.e. they can't judge distances very well). On the other hand, they are very attuned to movement, so this is perhaps what your piggy is seeing. Mine prefer to watch TV ;)

Yeh if you just go into a room and sit down or dont move my piggies wont take any notice. But if you start moving around or go near the cage they'd start demanding food.

They are very succeptible to movemments etc. they see almost everything.... *Big Guinea Pig* - the new T.V show :p, eh?

My pigs can identify their slave as opposed to another random person from the other side of the room.

I wouldn't say that identifying their "person" is completely sight related, though. They have excellent hearing and an acute sense of smell, too.

Exactly my pigs will notice movement even if I'm at my computer and turn around to quickly.

I don't think my piggies can make me out from the other side of the room. When I get 3/4 of the way closer to their cage they start to move around indicating they notice a shape coming closer. Its when I actually come upon their cage that they start climbing up to say hello. So it seems to me they can see shadows and movement a few feet away but not recognize a person until they are very close. And even then they seem to smell my hands and arms to make sure its me.

Do many of your pigs jump off of stuff? Mine try all the time. Does that have to do with them being stupid or them not seeing how far down they are?

True, they also seem to know when it's me walking up the stairs with their plate of veggies, they start wheeking for me, but no-one else. I guess they can tell by the sound of the footsteps.

Sidney has a igloo house and insists on climbing on this so he can see over the edge of his cage all the time. The others do no climb or like to try climbing.

I have 2 pups and one 4 month old who have learned that they can climb on their wooden hidey house. They love it! It's now a part of their daily game of tag. All 3 of them think they're "hot stuff" now, and will sometimes sit up there and watch the other pigs.
