How do you prepare parsley for the pigs?

Do you just give them the whole thing, or what?

I don't even feed parsley anymore(very high calcium, can be bad for older cavies) but when I did I just gave them 1-2 sprigs every now and then.

Okay, thanks. Maybe I shoudn't give it to Chip then. She's 5 years old.

Mine LOVE it. Just give them 2 or 3 sprigs every other week. That way it's not bad for them, but they still enjoy a treat once in a while.

Try cilantro for a good everyday veggie. It's kind of like parsley but low in calcium and good for them. Just rinse it off well and feed it to them stalk, leaves and all.

I give mine chives sometimes too. Should they be fed more, the same, or less than parsley? I give them two "sprigs" (more like blades of grass) every week. What do you guys think?

You're doing good with a couple of "blades" of chives a week. I wouldn't change it.

I know this is sort of off topic, but what about swiss chard? Everyday food?
I think I'll be starting to get parsley again for my pigs as I think Ruby and RJ are preggers. They're starting to get a pear shape to them the entire day(they only get really fat looking after they've had their bigger meal at night, then they slim right back down 12 hours later. It's weird) and since parsley is free at Shop 'N Save, it won't do anything.

Oh geez, I'm going to sound like a right idiot - how does the parsley you have come? Mine is all seperated in a plastic box. I think I'm feeding too much...I give one small sprig everyday and have been doing so for months :(

Piglet: I bought a parsley plant, but my piggers only get a couple of sprigs a week. My youngest pig gets an extra sprig as she's only 3 months old.
I know the little boxes you are talking about. The parsley doesn't last long in it. When I buy parsley in those tubs, I just take it out of there and either leave it open to the air or in a different food container with a lid.

I also bought a coriander plant, and have some gorgeous pics of them all eating from it!

RubyPiggie2: Swiss Chard is fine as an everyday food. I can't find it here in UK, but I was told that Swiss/Red chard is fine every day.

Yes, swiss chard is fine everyday in moderation. I would give only 100 grams or less per pig. It does have more A than anything else so that's why you need to feed in moderation.

On parsley, if you have young piggers (under 6 months), you can get by with feeding parsley in small amounts daily (2-3 sprigs) as youngsters need the calcium to grow, but it can start causing problems in older pigs. Piglet, if you are only giving one sprig per pig a day of parsley, that's ok.

Thanks Everyone!
