Sometimes the hay when on the floor gets peed and poo'd on and they don't like to eat it at that point. Sometimes it may look clean but not be clean.

You should remove uneaten hay from the floor at least daily to every other day and replace it with nice fresh hay. If you also provide a hay rack that gives them another place to get hay from that's always clean.

L.Y.-- Any suggestions for how to keep mischievious piggie-boys from knocking over their hay rack? I had two hay racks I have tried... a stainless steel hopper attached by two little hooks and a plastic one with a couple of little plastic hooks. They would constantly head-butt the sides of the hay racks, (I have no clue as to why) and then they would stand against it so it would end up either knocked over or completely tilted. When I raised the hay rack up higher, they almost couldn't reach it. *sigh* Right now it's just down to using an empty Mountain Dew box with tons of hay shoved inside. Which works for a few days until Patch makes it his second hidey and ends up pooping and peeing all over it.

I think Roger could get a ramikin dish from a restaurant for cheap or free--we find that those work VERY well in deterring the boys from trying to swim in their pellets.

I'd zip tie it to the grids. There are those fabric type zip ties that would work well in this situation.

Just like Ly said, I, too, use the kitty dish...the side by side one. I was using a ceramic bowl that came with Santino, but he tipped it over and pooped in it, so since getting Barney, I went to Walmart and got the two sided kitty bowls for 97 cents. That works very well!

As far as feeding...Everyday I remove the food left in the bowls (which is basically juts crumbs) and take about half a handful of pellets and put it in each side of the bowl.

For the hay, I started using AngieKay's idea about the small litter boxes. Put a small layer of carefresh (or whatever bedding you use) in the bottom and put fresh hay on top of the carefresh. They would go in there to eat and go potty while eating. Eventually I moved on to using a metal shower basket, zip tied it to the side of the cage and hung it over the litter boxes. This works better for me as it's easier to give them a constant supply of fresh hay. I realize the picture doesn't show the shower thing very well, but it's just an idea of what I'm talking about:
