My guinea pig is completely white all over. When I first got him I used to bathe him on a monthly basis until the vet told me to change it to once every 2 or 3 month. So I did. But the thing is, Snowball likes to sit in his litter box so his stomach and hind legs are completely yellow. It's been some time now, and every time I wash him the yellow stains never come off. It's very frustrating. I'm seriously considering cutting off the hair on his hind legs so he can grow out clean hair. But then I'm worried about how long it's going to take him to grow in out, and he's going to look at me like "what the hell?" I'm also thinking of buying vinegar and soaking him in it. I'm not sure if that's safe though.

So what do you guys do when trying to get the pee stains out?

I don't know about the vinegar an I would hold off until you get the ok from someone more knowledgeable than me :) Depending on your bedding, getting rid of the litter box all together may be a better solution? If you use fleece with towels, uhaul blankets or puppy pads underneath it tends to pull the urine down and will probably keep him cleaner. You could also try multiple litter boxes. Maybe he feels secure in the litter box? Does he have somewhere to hid, like a pigloo or hideyhouse? If so, he just might have a preference about the litter box. Good luck!

what are you using to bath him? Some shampoos are better than others. many people here really like Gorgeous Guineas and trhey will ship to Canada. Try emailing them and asking what they recommend. They are very helpful.

I would not soak him in vinegar. the acid could sting him and at the very least think about what you'd feel like soaking in vinegar.

For really dirty bums, I've used dawn, just a drop or two and then completely rinsed out. It really helped with Godiva's bum being so stinky and her one white paw getting stained.

For your pig's sake, please don't soak him in vinegar! One of mine has semi-permanent green stains on the white hair under her chin, but I haven't tried very hard to get them out so don't know what would work best. Many people do recommend the Gorgeous Guineas stuff, but the postage may be prohibitive. I'd try various mild shampoos made for kittens or exotic pets until I found one that will take the stains out.

"Do not" soak your guinea pig in vinegar, you will irritate its fragile skin. You can try soaking in enough luke warm to just cover the area in question to loosen then take a drop of dawn dish detergent and gently clean the area. It's very important to thoroughly rinse the soapy area as Dawn is extremely concentrated. Don't bathe the pig too frequently, they have fragile skin. Pigs really only needed to be bathed once in a 6 month period or longer. If the problem is just discoloration and not odor, I wouldn't let it bother you too much. You might want to consider trying different bedding that might be better absorbant. I don't know what you use but after trying just about everything out there including fleece, I'm happiest with shavings. I spot clean daily to remove wet bedding and keep it fresh. I have 2 boys that are white, I don't have this problem and I believe the bedding I use has a lot to do with it. Good luck
