What do you mean? You have to start young, to be able to do what?

You can get your appretience liscense to be Jockey at age 16. Although you should start exercise riding race horses at age 14. And getting involved with racing crowd, getting a job with a trainer grooming, exercising, or walking horses. And because I am 15 haven't rode a horse since our friends moved away, and have no contact with horse people any more. It is too late for me.
You need to start young (get involved in racing) to be a jockey because being a jockey is a very short career.

"My daughter takes English riding lessons. We pay over $30.00 per 1 hour group lesson. That would be about 25 British pounds."

I think it's closer to 15, as the British Pound is nearly twice the amount of the US Dollar. Just pointing it out because I'm a dork. =)

I agree, nothing is too late to start. So you can't be a jockey, big deal. Try riding for fun, it's just as fine I'm sure!

I can't ride for fun because my parents won't pay $50 for me to go to a stuck up prep barn (no offense to any one who is prep, but seriously you would have to meet these people. {and it is the only place that gives horse lessons near me}) for an hour long lesson.

And I am over it {not getting to be a jockey}. I was just stating that I wanted to and that I can't now. But yes it would be cool to ride for fun. But that is not an option for me.

Any how, Piglet how is it going with convincing you parents?

You shouldnt judge people....Alot of equestrian riders may seem "preppy" on the outside, but some of the reason for that is because they are so dedicated to the sport...so there is no need to say a stuck up prep barn...

I'm not getting anywhere! I got my school grades today. Not to sound big headed but they were really good, so I was hoping that my parents would say yes as a sort of present. Unfortunately, they said no =( Its really frustrating. Come on, 10 pounds a week is NOTHING, but all I hear is 'its so expensive' and 'how can we afford it'. I've even offered to cut cable, because I'm the only one who actually watches t.v, but they still say no.

That's great about your grades, but not about your parents--that's too bad.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend any one. Ya I know some people really really take the sport seriously, and are totally dedicated to horses and want the best for their horses. I didn't mean that was preppy.
But the way they (the people, not the horses they were all nice lol) act and treat people, they are very mean. I have been there (to the barn) and they snub everyone, and make fun of people and their horses (I went there with my neighbors because a friend was doing a show). If they had acted nicely I wouldn't have judged them. So yes I still think they are stuck up and preppy.

aarrgghhhhh, Me and my mum had the HUGEST argument yesterday. Its a definate no. Do you know what she said? If I want to do horse riding I need to give up my guinea pigs. No way! She knows how much I love them. I've had enough, so I'm going to stop asking her. My dads a little more understanding and whenever I talk about horse riding he'll listen to me and he won't shout. He's been away, so I've only been talking to him on the phone. He said we'll talk about it with my mum on the weekend.

I don't care if you think they are stuck up and preppy...it's not my problem! It's just wrong of you to do that. If you think they are stuck up and preppy, keep your comments to yourself, and you shouldn' tbe riding.

Ok, whatever, I said I was sorry if I offended any one. I can't take back what I wrote, and I already explained to you why I wrote what I did. I know it isn't your problem, but I thought I should explain since you seemed kinda mad that I wrote 'stuck up' and 'preppy'..sorry....And I am not riding so YAY!

Piglet I am sorry you couldn't convince your parents...

I love horse back riding lol. Piglet maybe your parents will give in after the holidays...

Ok just going to add my opinion- Emily you shouldn't be telling people if they can or can't ride. So three_piggies said the barn was stuck up and preppy (it wasn't exactly nice of her), but she wasn't talking about any one on this forum. She apologized and tried to explain. Sometimes people just let things slip out, and after all you only have 10 mins to edit your post. She never said it was your problem I think she wanted to explain because you seemed upset about her comment. You should just let it go after all she did apologize. Sometimes you just have to take things with a grain of salt.
I agree with you Emily, she shouldn't have made the comment, but she did.

I said shouldn't. I never told her that she can't ride. I simply stated my opinion.

What was wrong with her first apology??

When three_piggies first said her comment she said
no offense to any one
So ovbiously the comment wasn't said to any one on this forum.

And then she said the 2nd time-
Sorry I didn't mean to offend any one.
So she apologized to every one, and then tried to explain why she said what she did.
and you shouldn't be riding
I still think that comment was uncalled for, when you had just told her to keep her comments to her self.
You may have been simply stating your opinion but she was also just stating her opinion about the barn.
Can someone just lock this thread?
There is no reason lock this thread just because some one said something you don't agree with. If you still have a problem with what Three_piggies said then PM her. And settle it through a PM.
I still don't agree with the comment she made but you just have to let things go.
