How long is a guinea supposed to be in heat for?? I heard a couple of days. Well I have one piggy whos been in heat for over a month. Everyday shes chasing around my other pig and trying to mount her. If my other piggy goes near her she makes that vibrating helicopter noise and shes really snappy, constantly nipping at my other piggy thankfully not actually biting her but she claims everything to herself and is mighty bossy. Are female pigs supposed to be in heat everyday????

One pig is simply trying to dominate the other. Make sure they have enough room and see the section on the site about how to help pigs get along.

Get a neutered male for her. My dominant female Zirbel was always acting that way whenever Bonnie came near her. The minute I added a neutered boar, she left the macho behaviour to him - and he's not half as loud or aggressive as she was. I have never had such a peaceful bunch of pigs.

Do guinea pigs even go into heat? Just wondering.

Yes they do.

I believe sow go into heat for a few hours once every 16 or so days. What your seeing is a dominance issue being worked out. It has nothing to do with a sow being in heat.

Don't get a neutered boar, as long as there's no bloodshed or serious(and I mean serious, not "My poor baby is getting picked on I have to rescue him" ;) ) fighting they should be fine. This sow is obviously very dominant and is trying to keep it that way. No big deal, just dominance issues.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Yes unfortunatly this is a very dominant little piggy. I really don't have room for another pig so these two little buggers will have to learn to get along. There is no bloodshed not even close, in fact I don't think she even touches the other pig when she snaps at her its just the one that is getting picked on makes such a big fuss like shes getting mauled over it. Funny thing is the moment you separate them they starting wheeking immediately for eachother, but from the beginning the only time they have ever cuddled was when they were scared other then that they sleep completely apart. I thought pigs liked to cuddle togther considering when I got the dominant feisty piggy she was curled up together with a bunch of other pigs, while the one that gets picked on (Nugs) was all by her lonesome in a corner curled up, I felt so bad for her. Oddly enough she was bigger and the denominator in the beginning. They are getting big quite quick, about 4 months old now I hope they start getting along better soon.

I know what you mean. my boys are always making a fuss and if the younger one gets to hyper my grouchy older one will snap at him and the younger one will lay down. But then, when I take one out from the cage, the other one constantly has his little paws on the cage bars looking for his buddy.
