Okay, I need some toy ideas that you can make at home. I can't find any at the store that interest my pigs (yes, I take them with), and the toilet paper roll doesn't interest them. Does any one have any suggestions for toys that can be simply made at home? Oh and I have enough hidy houses, small tents and I have small stuffed animals in their cage as well.

How cute, you take them with you! You could stuff a sock with bedding, scrunch up a piece of newspaper and make a paper ball. I've heard that some pigs like shredded up newspaper. You could also give them a tennis ball to play with.

My pigs love those brown paper bags. They run through them until they are worn out. Maybe they like the sound I don't know. I usually put some hay in it.

Hey, good idea. I like the paper bag stuff and the wodded newspaper ball. Maybe I'll buy a tennis ball or ping pong ball as well.

I visited that forum and use the paper bag filled with hay and ping-pong balls. The balls seem to move, so they're playing with them and they love the bag and hay. I also went to the local craft store (Michael's) and bought a wooden spool and 2X2 block for them to play with. I e-mailed the company to find out what kind of wood they were made from and they said untreated aspen.

which size of paper bags do you use for the piggies cage? The grocery size, or the lunch size?

I use the lunch size. It fits better in the cage. But if you wanted to you could use the grocery size for floor time.

Ha ha. I went to the grocery store last week and I grabbed about 8 paper bags and stuffed them in my mums handbag ;) What we do for our pigs...

lol, I'll probably end up doing the same thing

I almost always find my pig Walter hanging out in his paper bag! he loves it!

really? how cute!

yep. At first when I started giving him bags, I'd come into my room and be like...oh my god! where is he?! thinking he got out of his cage some how, but nope...he'd be sleeping away or just hanging out in his little bag. I even made my pigs little pillow beds...but walter would rather be in his bag =)

how did you make your pillow beds? do the pigs like them and use them often?

pillows

I took a fabric placement and folded it in two. I sewed it up, but left like a 2 inch opening. Then I stuffed filling from an old pillow into it. Then I sewed up the rest. My pigs like to hang out on top of their log houses, so I made them to fit ontop of the houses. I just clip them to the side of the cage with a bull clip so that they don't move when my pigs jump on and off the house.

You can also use wash cloths, fabric remnants, or pieces of fleece.

I think they like them =) They like to stretch out on them.

thanks! sounds like something they would like.

are theree any cheap toys, good accesories I can add to this list? Is there enough?

Note: they wont all be in the cage at the same time due to space consumption, but rotated every couple of days/hours

paper bags
shoe boxes
pvc pipes
wadded newspaper balls
cozies
bricks
timber hide away
apple branch chews
stuffed socks

any ideas that will add to the currently very short list?

pingpong balls, tennis balls, coroplast houses, grid tunnels and futons are all great and pretty cheap. That's all I can think of for now.

are dog plushies safe?

Im not sure. Yesterday, I took an old sock and stufed it with hay. Then I cut a bog hole in the sock then attatched to one of the grids with a peg. Try it out!
