Home Grown Grass?

On the topic of grass, my piggies get lots of different veggies and tid-bits of fruit each day and i was thinking of building a run in my yard for Silky, Cleo and Smoothie (made from the cube things but without the bottem). it would be fully inclosed with a lock (just like my inside one), and they would NEVER be left out unsupervised. I was going to lay down some nice new top soil and plant tons of shade/sun grass and let that be the bedding and snacking for the piggies.

You see each summer we spend most of our time outside (weather permiting) and i don't want my piggies to miss out of family time by being stuck in the house with no one to talk to them. They are very much family members, but my human family are very much outside people in the summer. I am afraid that if they aren't outside with us that they would suffer withdrawls and become "wild like". Please any ideas, suggestions or comments, i am fully open to hear them.

You don't already have grass in your yard? There is no need to plant special grass for them. Just make sure it is pesticide/fertalizer free.

One thing I run into is having TSW cavies with lots of black and a thick coated abby, they get very hot fast, so usually no more than twenty minutes outside.

I don't see your cavies becoming 'wild-like' if they arn't around you all the time, but they do love to go outdoors supervised.

As funny as this may sound, no i don't have ANY grass in my front yard. You see my WHOLE area is covered in trees and they take all the moisture out of the ground, (greedy trees) and leave the ground very dry and sandy. To boot my communtiy was built ontop of a swamp, so the swamp was filled in with sand to build the houses on. In order to grow the grass i have to lay down this black rubber/paper matt, place top soil on top and then plant the grass. The paper is to expensive to do the whole yard but i can do a small area for the piggies. The rest of the yard is done in large patio stones.

Don't worry they would never be left outside with out me...even for a second.

You should just build a cage for them and set it on a picnic table, that way they are high enough to where they can see whats going on but still in plane sight so nearby preditors can't attack.
