Hello, one of my pigs has blood in his urine, yeah, terrible, and I need to know what should I do? I need better information than get him to the vet asap, I cant do that right now, so what can I do?

How long has this been going on?

Is she squeaking or whining when peeing or pooping? It could be UTI, bladder stones or reproductive problems.

Is she eating and pooping ok still? Is her weight still normal? If it's UTI, you can give her some cranberry juice, but she does need to go to a vet to get checked out.

What has she been eating lately? Are you sure it is blood? Sometimes red veggies and carrots make their urine reddish.

I agree, a trip to the Vet would be the best way to go - it's better to be safe than sorry with something like blood in the urine. Even if you're unsure I would try to get this pig to the Vet.

Otherwise, good luck.

He is eating fine, drinking fine, no squeaking or whining while pooping that I know of, he had this before so I took him to the vet and got him medicine that I would give to him everyday and it stopped, than it went away for a while and its back again, I dont know why it came back, I give him veggies everyday, clean his cage everyday, what else could have caused it ? I'll get him to the vet as soon as I can.

Definetily get to the vet. I heard that Bactrim is best for UTIs.

yes, my best advice would be the vet! ASAP

Does anyone know what causes this ?

So your pig is a boar, not a sow? What exactly is his diet?

Depends on what he has. Do you have any cranberry juice? If it is UTI, it may help him. Is he active? How big of a cage do you have for him?

To much calcium, I believe. Slow down on calcium heavy veggies.

Yeah its a boar. He is active, though he has been starting to sleep alot now. I have no cranberry juice but I can get him some tomorrow. He is in a 3x3 C&C cage.

Yes, that's why I asked about diet. How old is he?

He is 4 months old.

Oh and his diet is timothy hay, pellets, 2 bowls of mixed baby greens everyday with added veggies and fruits that are different everyday, mostly it has mixed baby greens, bell peppers, italian curly parsley, romaine lettuce, and addred fruit everyother day.

As others said cranberry juice can help a UTI...especially if you use it as maintainance to keep him from getting another UTI after treatment.

Cranberry sauce (like applesauce) will also work. Raspberries including the leaves, stems and flowers also fight off UTIs.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to get some cranberries and rasberries tomorrow.

make sure you get the 100% cranberry juice from the health food section, most is mixed with sugars and other juices.
you'll have to water it down cause its really strong.

but it won't cure it, it's just for prevention.

its probably a stone, and if he can't pass it on his own the vet needs to go in and operate to get it out.

and its not just about calcium, its about the ratio, you want a low calcium to phospherous ratio

here's a great link on it

What does UTI mean?

urinary tract infection

[ he had this before so I took him to the vet and got him medicine that I would give to him everyday and it stopped, than it went away for a while and its back ]

If he has been to the vet for this previously, didn't he tell you what the problem was? Also, can't you call the vet office and tell them that the same problem has returned and you need more or different medication to treat the problem?
