okay, i went to a pet store, because my mom wanted to buy some fish and i wanted to get just some general pricing for pellets & things like that, and when i got in i saw they were selling guinea pigs and rabbits (and a bunch of other animals). Well, they had the bunnies and female guineas in the same box/container/ i don't know what to call it, it looked kinda like a fish tank w/o a lid. i asked one of the sales people why the water was orange and she said that was how they gave their guinea pigs their Vit. C. They put TANG in the water! I was kinda upset but i really couldn't remember what i had read about piggies and bunnies in the same cage etc. so i came home and checked. i want to go back to the store and tell them what they're doing is wrong because i feel absoultely awful about not saying anything while i was there.

how should i talk to the people there? I'm thinking about printing off the info from this site about buns & pigs being in the same cage and giving it to them. does anyone have any other ideas?

Give one of the workers the site or the manager. if not call the rescue people and complain.

thanks i'll try to drive out there tomorrow.

no problem at all. Hope it all works out. good luck

I would talk to the manager of that store and calmly explain that piggies and buns shouldn't be kept together due to the potential risk of piggies getting kicked and hurt by the buns. Did the piggers have hay or veggies? You might also want to explain to the manager that the piggies need these things if they don't have them and try to convince him to get rid of the tang in the water.

thanks, i'm going to print the info on here and give that to them too. i didnt see any hay or veggies, only pellets. it was a tiny cage too. :(

also they had a pigloo and they all crawled in and then a bun went in and started hopping around and they all started squeaking! i was so upset i wanted to leave!

Just remember not to get too heated, try to keep it in a professional matter. The manager won't listen of you're all hot and bothered.Good luck!

If I had been there myself and saw piggers crammed into a pigloo and a bun in there tormenting them and making them squeal I probably would have lost it and started yelling for the manager. I am not usually like that but some things in this world just truly make me mad and bad treatment of animals is one of those things.

Over at www.guinealynx.info there is a care sheet on piggies. It might be useful as well to print that guide out and take it with you as well.
