If I build a 4x4 instead of my 2x4, how many square feet will that give me and how many pigs would work in that space? I have sows. Thanks!

Think in square grids rather than square feet, because the grids are 14 inches and it makes it harder.

The square area of anything is the length times the width (4th grade math), so a 2x4 is 8 square grids, a 4x4 is 16 square grids.

The recommended side for four pigs is a 2x6, which is 12 square grids.

You go up two square grids for each additional pig, so a 2x7 is needed for 5 pigs, a 2x8 (or 4x4, same difference) for 6, 2x9 for 7, etc. \

You can configure them any way you want, they don't have to be long and narrow, or square. Just avoid any 1 x anything, because it's so narrow it's an invitation to squabble.

Yes, well, when you are 32 you may not remember it anymore. When you don't use formulas they are easily forgotten. I never measure things...I'm a book author.

I am glad you said that, I think kids forget that. Adults do not use much of what is learned in school and we do have a tendency to forget a good bit.

Your 4x4 is equivalent to a 2x8 so 6 pigs.
