I can't sew but I have someone who can sew the blankets for me. She has no clue as what to do for the fleece cage blanket though. For those who have made them what do you use? Do you make it as big as the cage or how much bigger? I am currently using a towel and then a layer of fleece on top. Is that all I need or should I add something else to make it more absorbent. This is only my second day of using fleece so i'm not sure how to tell her to make it for me. I do know I want all the layers sewn together so I only have one thing to lay in the cage. Will that work?

I sew. You do not need to have the fleece hemmed, as it doesn't ravel like other fabrics. If you are using two layers of fleece, you can stitch them together by hand using an "overcast" type stitch. (Some people use a blanket stitch, which is a type of "over-the-edge" stitch commonly used on fleece blankets.)

I have yet to actually sew mine, but I have heard of people of this forum sewing cotton batting to their fleece, but I am not sure what, if anything, they put under the cotton batting. Other people will sew the towels right to the fleece, which I guess would make it much easier to clean the cage.
I have actually heard that two layers of fleece tend to smell much more than just one.
Remember to wash you fleece before you sew it because it will tend to shrink just a little on the first wash.

I wonder if I should just leave it alone then and not sew them together. Right now I have the fleece way to big though, I need to cut it down. How much bigger than the cage did you cut yours? I washed the fleece and towels in hot water already so they'd be preshrunk before I cut them.

You can jsut sew them together. I bough a bit too much fleece. So a couple of mine are like half a yard too big. I would only make it like half a foot bigger on all th side then fold it under.

I cut my fleece about 2" larger on all sides. It's true that you should not use two layers of fleece together. I did that and the ppe somehow got trapped in the bottom layer and it made the cage smell a bit. Now I use one layer.
