Help!! Is My Guinea Tooo Big??

My Guinea Pig is really big I have no idea what to do he as gotten to about 4 or 5 pounds?? what Do I do??

First of all how long is your pig? Some pigs are just larger than others. My pig is at least a foot long and about 4 pounds. He sees the vet regularly and she says he is large. Healthy and large!

A little off topic

You know my husband has a hard time with the fact that my piggies can get up to 4 pds. Right now they are about 3 - 6 mths old and weight about a pound. It was pertty funny the fist time I showed him the pictures of those things that are like large 50 pd gp. cabybara's I think they are called.

I think like people, you have to measure the weight as fat or muscle. Maybe he's just a big one. I love my bigger one, more to cuddle with. I have her on a diet though because she is fat around the belly. You have to feel them to determine if they are too fat or just big.

As long as the guinea pig is on a good diet (fresh hay, plenty of veggies and a plain pellet), and getting plenty of exercise (floor time etc) then he should be in good health. The builds of guinea pigs vary so much you can't really hear a weight and know if that guinea pig is healthy.

If in doubt, see the vet for a check up. You can also make floor time more stimulating so he gets more exercise - always try and increase their motivation to be active rather than restricting food. Sometimes pigs kept on their own are less active so if he is, getting him a same-sex buddy may help.
