I have 3 female guinea pigs currently between the ages of 3-6 months. Currently I have two of them living in a 2x4 c&c cage with a 2x1 loft space. My other little girl is in a much smaller cage due to an injury that is healing, I don't want my eldest to injure her more shes kind of a bully. Anyway I want to build a 3x4 cage with a 3x1 litter box with a 3x2 loft space if the room permits for the lower level to be 3x5 in total if not the run space would be cut down to 3x3. I'm not 100% sure that will be enough space for my 3 girls and we plan on getting another one here soon around the same age if at all possible is it enough??

In case anyone is curious their names are Vixxie(6mo), Bella (4-5mo), and Thumper (3-4mo).

3x5 cage is larger than a 2x6, it will be a great space for your 4 girls.

Has anyone thought to make a cage out of PVC pipes? Is it safe for them? I want something that looks a little nicer maybe I'm not sure yet if i want to do it for my girls or not. pvc1-2.jpg

What kind of wire are you using?

Also, that cage is very deep, and will be hard to clean. It's also doesn't look wide enough? How long and wide is it?

Its not my cage its just one that I found online, I'm not sure what type of wire would be best. Its just an idea I saw for conserving some space. Difficulty to clean isn't going to be a problem at all. I made sure I have the same day off work so I can thoroughly clean out their cage and wash the fleece. I was just wondering if something like that would be safe for them.

I'd worry about the wire. It looks like something their nails could get caught in, or their teeth.

How are you going to clean the bottom with the wall that high? If you turn on the side, all the stuff in the cage is going to fall out. And you can't vacuum fleece without holding it down, because it gets sucked up into the vacuum cleaner?

Have you looked at the alternative cages in the photo galleries here? There are hundreds of cages in there.

In my opinion, a cage made from wood and plexiglass will look better than wire and PVC.

Here's my current cage. I'm planning to change the front to plexiglass.

So i did go ahead and make the 3x5 C&C cage and my girls are loving it, however I noticed they are drinking a lot more water since getting the bigger cage. I was gone for a week and had someone watch them who has watched vixxie for me before and they all know and have been handled by before. but moving back home and receiving a new cage they are going through almost a bottle and a half in one day! its still just the 3 sows is this normal?

the bottle is a kaytee 32oz.

Are you sure they're not playing with it and draining the bottle? Or that the bottle isn't leaking? I seriously doubt that three pigs are drinking that much.

I know the bottle isn't leaking, I didn't think they would mess with it but i suppose when my dog is outside their room and they run they hit it or trying to hide next to it (which they do a lot) would make sense. thanks

That wire and pvc looked very ghetto to me. Even a C&C looks better over that.
