I spent the entire afternoon washing and drying my fleece. I used hot water, laundry detergent and no dryer sheet (they have fabric sofener and they smell). I had it all set up when the waterbottle driped onto the fleece and just pooled up. Now I have a guinea pig sitting on the floor waiting to go back in his cage. What do I do? Should the liquid imediately wick down. Under the fleece is a folded over matress pad. Should it take a little bit to wick? Please help!

It normally takes about 5 minutes or so for liquids to wick through the fleece.

Thank you. I put him down on the fleece and he started popcorning (which I have never seen him do) and he also came out to sniff my mom's finger (which he has also never done). I have never seen a happier guinea pig in my life.

The fleece will wick even more effectively after it's been washed more, I wouldn't worry about it. One thing to check is that the mattress pads and fleece are pressed close together and touching so that they will properly draw the moisture through. I just press everything down with my hands after I stack the layers in the cage, and it helps a lot.

can mattress pads be washed?
I have a new C&C cage coming next week and am thinking of moving to fleece too.

Thank you every one. My fleece is working better and better as time goes on. To answer dalilahsmom'm question yes matress pads can be washed. That is what I use under my fleece.

You can use any kind as long as they are washable and absorbent. THESE are the ones I use.
