Injury HELP!!! Dragging back legs!!!

i think i replied with haha quater to one...i meant north east lol shows it is late. let us know how the pig is tomorrow morgan, we only want the best for the pig

@mumof4andzoo it's not daylight savings time here right now so quarter to 8PM.

@Morgan_ I hope Chestnut makes a full recovery. I won't claim to be okay with your vet not instructing her assistant to at least give him pain medication. Hopefully you or your mom can ask the vet about that tomorrow morning.

i am not ok with it either, but it's the most I can do for today, tomorrow is a completely different story. I'll let everyone on here know as soon as I get home from school and practice tomorrow.

I am east midlands.. nearly time for bed i think..

Yes morgan, we do truely only want what is best for your piggy. I know it is hard for you being reliant on others.. just keep chestnut warm, i have a piggy called chestnut aswell :)

Since I have joined I noticed that name a lot haha!

Im sorry, but i have never heard of a vet giving out their home telephone number. Not saying its not true... just saying ive never heard of it.

Your piggy needs help now. it will be in pain, in shock, animals can die just from shock. 2 nights with no painkillers, as your piggy will be in pain, its awful.

in my town they do... but most dont have after hours either... I know that im in kentucky and its like this.. and alot of areas in wv are even smaller.... alot of places that arent in this mountain area are more developed... i know the only store near me is a grocery store a dollar store 2 gas stations and a few mom n pop restraunts.

Morgan... i understand your situation... I am 19 and cant drive... yeah bring on the you need to learns and blah blah... i suck at it... and if i need to take my pets to the vet i usually have to pay for my own... I have learnt how to take care of my dogs on my own.. like giving the shots they need and stuff... but for piggies it is more complicated than that... most people get into it thinking that its just a simple pet that is okay and dont get sick easy... its very misleading to just go to a pet store or something and trust that they are right... out of our 9 pigs onlu one was a pet store pig and guess what.. pregnant.. and we stressed for a month until she had them... and now they are nearlu two weeks old... there are two vets in my area and neither are exotics.. even the ones in the next county over arent and its the biggest area near me.... I have to beg people to take me places... even to the dr if i need to... and college to get schedules(online classes of course)and books.. imagine having a dog that got its eye tore out and having to take her half an hour away with it hangin off her face and her in pain... pretty gruesome... in a small area it isnt as easy to go places as it is in a city... and especially if you cant drive...

it is pointless to be rude to a KID on here who is asking for advice... and he is doing all that he can... i got my vets number and tried calling him when my guinea pig had a seizure and i was so panicked that i didnt even realize she had died... my mom used a stephoscope to see if she had a heart beat and there was but it was the babies in her because she was pregnant... i asked for advice about things on here to help her get rid of lice and people kept jumping onto me about how her cage was too small and her food was bad and everything.. and i got no help for it... i took her to the vet... she was given ivermectin and i was given a 40 dollar bill to pay.... and i lost her like 3 weeks later out of the blue... sometimes you can do everything you can and it dont help.

Hey Morgan, if your vet is still open I would have your mom call them or drive over and DEMAND they give you pain medication for the pig. There is no way in hell they should have allowed you to leave without any. If the vet is already closed don't even think about leaving the vets without pain meds tomorrow. Refuse to leave until they give you some. Be firm, be a total jerk if you have to but that pig needs pain meds and you are the only way it's going to get any.

I hope the appointment goes well tomorrow. Good luck.

Did you ask your mother about going to another vet and getting a second opinion? I would think that if a mother cares so deeply for the guinea pig as well, that she would be willing to go to another exotic vet for a second opinion. This isn't something to mess around with. This guinea pig likely has a spinal injury and may never fully recover if not treated in time. I won't even touch on the pain he is likely having. I am confident that all of us can imagine the pain he is going through.

It just really bothers me that this is being put off longer than 24 hours now. Any other species that has the same symptoms wouldn't be put off like this from professionals. Is he eating currently? If he isn't eating, you should make a pellet mash, use a needless syringe and force feed him.

He is eating hay, pellets, and vegetables. He isn't drinking as much so I might need to use a syringe

My other pig is laying under the blanket I put in the cage with them and won't stop wheeking

Sadly, it's too late for a second opinion. I certainly hope your vet will be more professional tomorrow morning(both with your pig/her employees). If you feel like he isn't drinking enough water, give him his veggies wet.

I agree with giving veggies that are wet or high in water content. Force feeding is hard at the best of times and if he can't move his back legs I think it would be a really bad idea to move him around and try to force feed him. It's possible he has a spinal injury and moving his could just make it that much worse. I would say don't touch him or move him until it's time to go back to the vet.

Oh, forgive the double post, but do see about getting a syringe to force feed him from your vet. While he is on any medication, he may decide to not feel well enough to eat and if he stops eating, he'll die. I have a Bullet Blender and I have that for making pellet mashes. Add some water, pellets, some bell pepper and give it a whirl.

If you're given antibiotics see about getting some Bene-Bac. It's a probiotic that'll support the digestive system while on antibiotics. Sometimes antibiotics can mess the tummy up. It certainly messes my tummy up and I give it to my animals to make sure they don't get any tummy issues while on antibiotics.

May i ask, what is a mom and pop restaurant?

Lol.. It's just little family restraunts... Mostly pizza/burger places

Honestly, my major issue here is with the vets. Or at least, the vets assistant. Like has already been said, would a human be left in this situation without care or at least pain meds? And who on earth gets in to the profession of caring for animals if they aren't even willing to give an animal with a possible spinal injury pain meds? I would for sure look in to finding a different vets. I imagine any vet, exotic specialist or not, if they truly cared for animals, would prescribe your pig some pain meds, so perhaps find a caring-non-exotic vet for emergencies like this?

I'm very sorry to say, he had to be put to sleep. They said he is paralyzed but right above the spot, he was feeling a little bit of pain, or he is very uncomfortable. They said he would just have to live the rest of his life the way he has been the past day. He has been impacted, in a corner, unless I motivate him to move. I asked if it would've made a difference if she saw him yesterday, she said no. Since he is paralyzed, there was no helping after the moment of the accident. I feel so bad but I did not want him to live like that. I couldn't deal with it. He is now in a much better place, where he can use his legs. I am sorry.
