HELP Bad petstore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, well, it is your choice as to whether or not to treat them. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so, that's why I would wait. However, I do think something should be done if help does not arrive soon. Be sure to take at least a few photos of the piggies so that the owner cannot deny the charges were true. Good luck once again, and you are truly amazing for helping those innocent pets out of a harmful situation. I admire you! =)

Thanks for the tip about taking picture as proof I would have never thought of that!! I wouldn't have been able to help them if I hadn't had your advice so thanks a bunch!!!!

Good for you! I'm so glad you're helping out.

That is awesome that you could help! Is there any way you could help the rabbits too? Rabbits should never be on wire floor either since it can cause severe wounds on their feet called sore hocks (not to mention it is extremely uncomfortable). Can you remove the wire bottom on the rabbit cage? Or try placing thick layers of newspaper or rubber bath mats on the wire floor?

Is there some hay at the pet store you could give the rabbits and piggies?

Keep up the good work!

I am bringing in my bunny's old C&C cage but I am putting a top on it like you said to in a different post. Because these rabbits are really big. Do sore hocks look redish and look like a sore, because these bunnies feet didn't look to good. They looked like they hurt a lot, they were all red and inflamed. I will be sure to give them some hay, I totally forgot about that.
Oh ya is there any certain deseases rabbits can have? I knwo a little about them but not a lot, my usually handled all the sicknesses etc. I have no idea how to determine the sex of a rabbit so if anyone knows how that would help.
(I am trying to get my vet to help me out we are good friends, it would be nice if I could have some good advice from a vets point of veiw. Not sure if the vet will agree to help but its worth a try.)

I agree with mncavylover. If you plan to help the guinea pigs be sure to have evidence that they were in bad shape. Luck would have it that you would get help right after you fixed them all up, then it wouldn't look like they have been mistreated at all.

I think its great that you are putting in the effort to clean that place up. Its a good insperation for others to try to do the same with the other pet stores.

No problem! I just wouldn't have remembered the pictures until it was too late, either, but I watch Animal Planet too much (lol) so I know that it is crucial to have evidence. I just hope that whoever did this gets what's coming to them... Thanks for helping them sooo much!!! You're awesome. =)

I placed the piggies in their oringal cages and put the ones that were with the rabbits with the rabbits and took pics. I took close ups of their fur, their cages, and their feet. I also took close ups of the rabbits, one rabbit appears to have an abcess not sure though. I made some wooden huts for the guinea pigs but they don't use them, I dont think they know what they are. The petstore owner/manager asked me to help him learn how to care for the piggies&bunnies but it is a little late for that he should have thought about that a LONG time ago. So far the rabbits are loving there new cage they especially love peeing and pooping everywhere.
I love Animal Planet!!! I watch it every day but I never paid attention to them when they took pics.
I called the Humaine Society again they are going to go and investigate, they can't tell me anything that happens with the case, and they told me I wasn't allowed to know. So I guess I will just hope for the best (that they take the animals away) and that it goes well and the petstore stops selling animals etc.

That is exactly what sore hocks look like. They are incredibly painful, and very slow to heal.

Some Rabbit illnesses:

Upper Respiratory Infections- Symptoms include sneezing, maybe discharge, runny eyes, and/or chest congestion

Ear Infections- head shaking, scratching of ears, and/or sensitivity at base of ear. If not caught early can lead to head tilt

Fur Mites-loss or thining of hair along shoulders and middle of back of rabbit, dander and itching

Ear Mites

Fleas

Malocclusion- crooked teeth that do not line up properly, Can cause rabbit to stop eating completely and can sometimes lead to abscesses or even death

Coccidia-intestinal parasite, highly contagious, soft stools and/or inability to maintain weight

E. cuniculi- symptoms include head tilt, liver failure, kidney failure, loss of function in the legs, eye twitching, neurological symtoms

Abscesses- collection of pus that is localized by a zone of inflamed tissue, very hard to cure

Is there any way you could print off materials from the internet and give it to the pet store guy for reference? I would print off materials from www.rabbit.org and www.guineapigcages.com , especially information on diet and housing. Please continue to try to educate him to prevent him from doing this in the future.

Ok! I was thinking about giving him care sheets but I didn't know.

The sore hocks on the rabbits will need to be treated. Try to examine the rabbits' feet. If it appears infected or if the wound is deep they will have to go to a rabbit-savvy vet. If it is not too severe you can clean the underside of the foot and apply a padded wrap for a couple weeks to start healing it. (I don't know how well the rabbits would tolerate it). Sometimes Preparation H or Bag Balm can be effective. And definitely tell him to NEVER put them on the wire again, or sell them to anyone who plans to keep them on wire-bottom floor.

Also, see (broken link removed)

That is actually my site and has good caresheets that the store can customize with their info. You can do it for them and print them out. --How to win friends

Yay! See how much difference you have made? These animals will get a chance at loving, caring homes, and the pet store may improve. Good luck, and I sure hope the animals are found loving forever homes! Thanks soooo much for doing this, taking your time and supplies to help with this situation. =)

You can also give the owner links along with the care information, and give him/her info on the other animals that were in the store being mistreated.

All the best for you and the animals!!!

All right i will print out those care sheets!! Thanks for all your advice, Cavyspirit, mncavylover, and bunnyluv17!!! I am still checking on the piggies & bunnies a lot.
My vet said she would give me two free check ups, so I am taking a bunnie and a piggy, I am taking the ones that look the worst. The humaine society hasn't come to investigate yet but I am sure they will soon.

be sure to keep the vet papers if they give you any (you know, saying what was wrong with the pigs and what it took to cure them) that way you could show the humaine society when they come

ok I will, thanks!!

Wow, bunnyluv, you seem to know these animals well. And its good to see someone actually standing up for these animals. I hope they are able to heal and eventually have good homes to go to. No animal should be treated like that.

While you are at the vet, don't forget to have the vet show you how to sex the rabbits. You are doing a wonderful job :)
