Hi! I posted a few weeks ago about a possible health problem with my guinea pig (he's ok!), and everyone seemed so nice, and I've been lurking and looking at pictures of all these adorable guinea pigs, so I figured I would introduce myself!

My name is Emily, and I've had my little guinea pig, Aladdin, for
about seven months now.

[GuineaPigCages.com] Hello, Everyone![GuineaPigCages.com] Hello, Everyone![GuineaPigCages.com] Hello, Everyone!

Sorry for the not-so-great quality, but I heard you guys love pictures!I'm also joining because we're planning on getting another pig here in the next week or so, and we also need to get a new cage, so I have a lot to read up on!

Welcome/welcome back! You definitely heard correctly, we all love pictures. Aladdin is really cute (I have a huge soft-spot for Abyssinians with their whacky hair) and I'm sure he'll love having a friend to hang out with when you're not there. It's definitely good that you're doing your research before getting the other piggy, and this whole site is amazing for finding creative cage ideas, either on the home page or the photos page. Good luck with your cage building and (hopefully) adopting

Thank you! And I know, I just love their crazy hair, it's so adorable. I'm definitely doing a lot of research, and I think I'm pretty close to having everything ready for a new friend for Aladdin!

I would absolutely love to adopt a guinea pig instead of purchasing one, but I've been having a hard time finding any at all up for adoption, or any place that would have them. Our animal shelter doesn't have smaller animals at all, and I've been looking through the adoption thread here, but nobody's close!

Thanks again!

prayerdesign, post the name of the city that you're closest to, and we'll help you find a pig to adopt. Please don't purchase a pet store pig or one from a breeder -- there are thousands of homeless pigs that need someone to care for them.

Welcome to GPC! Your piggie is adorable!
Have you check petfinder.com and craigslist? Sometimes rescues have foster homes in different places. Try to contact the rescue in your area and see if they can work with you.

Thank you for the pigture, he is just too cute!

Thanks again, everyone!

The city I'm closest to is Kingsport, Tennessee, but a bigger city that would be doable is Johnson City, Tennessee. I keep checking petfinder, and the nearest city that has guinea pigs is Knoxville, which is a little over two hours away, and we can't really go that far. I check craigslist a lot too, but no guinea pigs!

I do really want to adopt one though, and I didn't think about contacting the local shelter and seeing about any foster homes! I will certainly do that though.

Thanks for all your help!

Lissie's suggestion is a good one. Very few rescues have a dedicated building where the animals are kept -- they're in foster homes, usually spread out over a metropolitan area. There might be someone fostering a pig really close to you.

Also, some rescues will meet you halfway, or otherwise help arrange transportation. I'd check with any that you find in the area on Petfinder and see what you can work out with them.
