When I woke up this morning I went to say hello to the piggies and Biscuit who is 6yrs old has a head tilt. She is walking about with her head tilted to one side and her left eye is runny and cloudy. Her other eye is fine; she is eating and drinking and walking about. She is not however letting Smartie lick her eye like she normally does. Do you think she poked herself in the eye with the hay? It is Saturday so it is only emergency's at the vets.. I won't be able to get there untill Monday. Is there anything I can do in the mean time? Or do you think I could class this as an emergency?

xx

Oh no! How terrible. The head tilit could signal an inner ear infection and the cloudy eye could well be an accident. I think you could class this as an emergency - I'm having the same problem with you. The vets not open over the weekend, so I too have to wait until monday.

Thanks piglet.. I noseyed around her eye and found a bit of hay in the corner. I pulled it out with some tweezers and gave the eye a wipe with warm water. She's been running around the cage with her head normal.. but when she lays down she tilts it. She tilts it in the direction of her bad eye. I am off to get some saline solution for her eye.. my mum doesn't want to go to the vets (suprise suprise!) today, but if it is not better by Monday she said we can go.

P.S I hope furlong and his teeth will be fine!

It is my undersatanding that without prompt treatment, the head ti;t can become permanent. I hope you can get to a vet asap.

Ear infections are nothing to mess around with. Please try to get her into an emergency vet this weekend. Tell you mom that this is an emergency.

Rachy, any news?

Furlong teeth are getting worse, I am so worried. I have contacted a lady who is a specialist in pigs, but I don't actually know if she is a vet. I'm going to take him to her tomorrow

I couldn't get to the vets yesterday but I have gd news! :) Biscuit's held tilt has gone and her eye is nearly completely cleared up. All I did was remove a peice of hay and put in a bit of eye lubricant.

oh dear Piglet! :( I hope he will be ok.. Can he eat and drink without his teeth or are you having to feed him through a syringe? Hopefully his teeth will either fall out and grow back soon or just toughen up! Let us know how it goes tomorrow!

Phew, that's great news. I'm glad she is well, because I love biscuit! Her cheeks are gorgeous

Yes, he can still eat but I'm having to hand feed him. I'm cutting up the vegetable very small, so it takes about 5 minutes for him to get through a piece of lettuce. Ascot races through his in like 30 seconds!
