how do you make hay racks with the grids?
anybody have a good site or set of instructions that are easy to understand and are step by step?

Hay Rack

Another alternative would be something like this (broken link removed) It can be purchased at most home improvement stores and probabaly places like Wal-mart and such. Hangs right on the grids and a couple of zip ties keeps it in place. This is what I use and works great. Holds enough hay for 2 piggies for one day if i pack it really full. Hope this helps.

You can also just use a kleenex box for a hay rack, changing it when it gets dirty. Free hayrack! The pigs love it, I just tried it yesterday! Be sure to take out any plastic if you use the pull-out kind. They can also chew on the box, and you won't need to worry about them getting stuck or anything! =)

My hayrack is here (the cube one): https://www.guineapigcages.com/gallery/825/

Good luck!

catinhat72, hey! your closet made thing looks pretty cool, and so much cheaper than a real hay rack! i think i'll go with this option

i was just wondering if the pigs like to pull their hay out of their rack and string it all over the place? If i had fleece, hay everywhere would be a hassle. Directly under the rack, i thought i would put a water bowl, but what do i do if they want to take out huge lumps and throw it into the fleece?

I have that same closet maid rack for my pigs hay, and they love pulling it out and getting it everywhere! I have a 2 story cage at the moment (modifying the cage this weekend, to a bigger one level). I've been lining the bottom story with Newspaper, and the upper deck with fleece. I keep the hay rack on the papered level, so that it's easier to clean.

Oh...and I got my rack like that at Home Depot. So I'm assuming that you probably can find them everywhere!

My piggies actually do well in not pulling it out and stringing it everywhere. Guess they are just serious about their food and don't find it to be a toy. LOL Of course some does fall out while they are eating but they tend to clean it up. I think I make more of a mess getting it in there then they do getting it out. Oh well. LOL I bought mine at Home Depot too but have seen them just about everywhere they sell ClosetMaid stuff.
