My best friend gave my guinea pig a cavy-sized harness. Are harnesses a good idea for excersize?

I wouldn't use it. I used to use one and my pigs hated it. Just toss it out, or return it.

They are extremely dangerous. It is not good for your pig's posture nor is it secure -- the pig can excape from it easily. Pigs are not 'walkable' as they do not follow -- they have their own pathing instinct and will go where they want to go. Outdoors there is a real danger of your pig getting attacked by a predator. Some predators you can see coming, but others, ie. a bird, you will not see it coming until it is too late.

Your pigs should be able to get pleanty of exercise during floor time.

OK, thanks for the advice

Yes, I have one too... my pigs HATE it.

I am glad this question was posted. I had been wondering if I would eventually want a harness, now I know I don't. This sounds like one more item pet stores sell that aren't good for cavies.

Get rid of it, and quickly!!!

They are horrible for the pigs back, they don't fit properly so pigs can escape or get hurt trying to escape, the pigs HATE them, and if they do escape you are OUTDOORS trying to catch an upset piggy!!!

Use some extra grids and make an outside playpen. If you don't have extra grids, Wal-Mart carries playpens for like 10 bucks.

You will be happier, and your piggy will be thankful!

Have a great wheek-end,
Marie

If you get one of those playpens from WalMart, (I got mine there) get two and connect them. They are kind of small. (Look bigger on the box)

What section are those playpens in? I bought mine from Fin and Feather in Groton and paid $20 and I know they have got to be cheaper.

They are in the pet section, there should be a small animal section, right next to the fish and birds.

Which Walmart are you talking about?

Well, WalMart in North Whindam is where I go, but any WalMart supercenter should have it.

Well, we go to 4 Walmarts (Norwich, Waterford, Lisbon, and sometimes Groton) so hopefully we'll get lucky and find one.

You might also check www.walmart.com and see if they offer it there. Sometimes they will ship it to your local wal mart for you to pick up free of shipping charges.

Good luck,
Marie

I ordered 3 from (broken link removed) for like 11.99 each and it makes a good sized play area.

How long did it take for you to get them?

I received them in like 4 or 5 days. They hook together and make a great sized play area.

Thanks you guys! I'm SO glad I checked with you all before I tried.
