Here is a little background on what has been happening. Hailey came into rescue pregnant.
Saturday, 2AM:
I checked on Hailey on my way to bed this morning a little after 2 am (had gotten home at 1:20am from working a double shift) and found her with one dead baby (76 grams), one live baby(80 grams), and still a huge tummy. Not sure if I had caught her mid-deliery I observed her for a bit but nothing was happening so I ran the vet and off we went. Palpation and x-rays revealed 2 babies still in her and as it had been some time since I had found her with nothing, an emergency c-section was preformed. It was just finished at about 5am and Hailey is already up and about, eating and drinking.
One of the babies was unable to be revived after delivery(76 grams), and one was (70 grams). Som the two living babies are one who was born naturally shortly before 2am and one via c-section shortly before 5am.
Both babies are very lethargic and sort of limp. I did try to give them both a little critical care but neither would chew it when I put a tinsy amount in their mouths. Not wanting to aspirate I stopped trying. Right now Hailey is in with them and is sitting over them.
I'm not sure what to do. I think they will both die but maybe they will rally with their mom.
Hailey weighed in at 910 grams after surgery.
Please keep the little pigs in your thoughts.
Saturday, 8:26AM:
The little b&w c-section baby didn't make it. The other little one is hanging in there but it doesn't look good.
Sunday, 3:45AM:
Hi everyone, I left this afternoon at 3:30pm to go to my 10 year high school reunion sure that the baby would be dead when I returned. I just got home at 3am and miraculously, the little one is still alive. I am absolutly cautious right now, but hopeful. Before I left I tried and tried to get the baby to nurse, but he would not grasp the nipple, could barely support himself to sit - would just flop over - I was sure it was only a matter of hours before he would leave us. I tried to feed critical care but got no chewing response or anything.
Sunday, 8PM:
Little Miracle is still living - this pig has a will. Not much change in how "floppy" he is, but I was actually able to get critical care into him just now! I'm sure not all of it went into him but at least smoe and possibly most of 2cc of CC entered this baby's body. And he did a little tiny pee - which I thought was great as it must mean he's getting something into him. Best of all, I weighed him before feeding - 66 grmas - and after feeding (and the pee) and he had gone to 68 grams. Of course, when I weighed him after birth he was 80 (although still had the afterbirth attached) so he's by no means out of danger. But still, it is nice to see him get some food into him.
Most concerning is the lack of motility, ability to sit up, hold head up, for long periods of time. I almost think at this baby was premature. Not sure how we would know, really, though.
Hailey seems to be doing quite well. She is recovering well so far from her surgery.
I am very pleased with my vets. Despite their expense and lack of guinea pig knowledge, they have been a huge assest and certainly saved Bianca and her baby and probably (don't want to jinx things) Hailey as well. They are always willing to listen, look things up, call someone, etc.
They are so extremely careful to keep a sterile surgical field (I personally observed this in both George (RIP) and Hailey's surgery), and I am sure that this goes a long, long way in preventing infections post surgery.
Each time I check on this baby I expect the little one to have left us and he keeps surprising me, so I am really hoping he can make it.
Monday, shortly after midnight:
I actually saw a drop of milk on one of Hailey's teats and got the baby to suckle for a little bit tonight. Also got some of 3 ml of Critical Care, Squash, Vit. C mixure into the little guy.
Monday, 10:45AM:
I thought the little one was gone this morning because Hailey ran across the cage and he was lying there flat, my heart stopped for a second but then he moved. He was down to 62 grams this morning but after feeding him he went up to 66. Still very uncoordinated and listless.
Tuesday, 10:25PM:
The little guy is still hanging in there! Not really gaining weight yet, but no longer loosing either, and seems to be getting a tiny bit more evergy! When I got home from being gone a couple hours tonight he had come out of the pigloo (with a heating disc under) and was across the cage (it is a petstore cage right now) snuggled up with mom.
I found a place to upload clips for free!
Go here to see them, there are 7. (broken link removed)
They are tiny. You can save them and open them in Media player and view them at 200% and then you can see them a little better.

Enjoy!!! And please keep this little one in your thoughts. He is really hanging in there but is not out of the woods yet by a long shot.
