guinea pigs death

We've owned 2 brothers since they were ready to leave their mother. They are about 9 months old. They got along great in the same cage. Last week I noticed that Lloyd was not as active as usual and not excited when we fed fresh greens and carrots. We hand fed him more to make sure he was eating, and he still seemed different. Not even 2 days later he died. Now Harry is alone and I am worried he might get sick too or even depressed about losing his brother. He is eating, but he stays in his house most of the day and night. Should I get another guinea pig for him? He is not showing any signs of sickness. Also does anyone know why a healthy guinea pig would get sick and die so quickly? We are first time guinea pig owners so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

So sorry about your boy. I think you should have your pig checked out by a vet before you get him a new friend. You should get him a new friend asap though.I dont have the slightest idea what could have caused this.

You should learn a lesson from that. Slight changes in their behavior should alarm you and immediately bring them to the vet. I suggest you that you bring you pig (the one who died) to a vet so that he /she can tell you what happened. At least you know what went wrong and that it won't happen to your other pig

I think there's a link on www.cavyspirit.com on what to do if something happens like yours. Coz getting another pig won't have you an assurance that you other pig will be happy again or act the way he used to. Try to find it. It will help you :)

Hello..sorry to hear about your GP death. Do you feed foods that are high in Vitamin C? I am not saying that the Vit. C had anything to do with it but was just wondering.

I make sure my GP's have a diet with a lot of Vit. C ...you could feed things like Parsley...and green peppers...

Make sure that they have a fresh supply..of Timothy hay and fresh pellets at all times. I give veggies 2 times a day.

Diet plays a big roll in our GP's life staying heathy....just thought I would note that.

I dont have any exotic vets with in 100 miles from me and if one of my GP's got sick I would have to take them to a vet that is NOT and exotic vet and that scares me. So I try to make sure that they stay heathly with a great diet.

So anyways I would check into vets in your area in case the last brother shows the signs of what the other GP did.
He could have died from any number of things and the only person that could find that out is a vet that looked at his body and did some testing.

Good luck...
Jennifer
