Soooo, I'm in Southern California and in case you haven't heard, it's 85 degrees in the middle of winter. I'm not amused. :grumpy: That being said, my room is a tad uncomfortable and this is where Shelby is housed. Is it safe to put my ceiling fan on on low or would that be too much of a draft (draught? sp? lol)? Low setting would at least get the air moving in here, any higher would be too breezy for him. Could I cover the portion of his cage where he sleeps with a blanket so he won't get a draft? My window is open a crack now as it's pretty stagnant outside, no wind blowing. I do have a tower fan I can turn on just pointed at me and he won't get a draft at all... But I've been wondering about this and was curious, cuz I have a feeling summer won't be fun and my room gets all the heat off our dividing wall all day. Random I know, but I don't need a case of pneumonia on my hands. I'd rather suffer than lose Shelby. Thanks!

You should be able to have your ceiling fan on. If the blowing is directly over his cage it will not hurt to cover the area where he sleeps.
I would be better if the room is cooler. You do not want pigs to be in an area much above 85 degrees.
You mentioned summer. Do you have a/c so your room has a cooling system? Pigs can die from it being to hot. The room needs to be 85 degrees or below. In the summer ice bottles can be put in the cage, or a brick under the water bottle so it will be a place to lay to be cool

Oh yes, we definitely have A/C but we don't leave it on all night. It's not 85 in the house or my room, it was outside all day and it's just warm in my room now, just enough to make it a little uncomfortable (for me, but I also wear shorts in 60 weather lol). We be sure to keep the house at a steady temp of 72-78 degrees.

Then your Shelby should be just fine.

When we have the windows open at the be gaining of summer I always have a fan on in the room where my piggies live. I do direct the air flow away from them. I always worry about them overheating due to them always wanting to wear their fur coats around the house:p!

I think of a draft as being air that's significantly colder than room air. I never think about the pigs when I turn the ceiling fan on. And that's often, because I live in Houston.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys! I'd rather be safe than sorry!

I have to have a fan on while I sleep. Its to the right of my Carliee's cage. I took a baby blanket and draped it over half the top and right side of the cage. She love's it there. Makes her feel safe. It's like her little cave.

I would just like to say I am very jealous of you guys at the moment! I wish we had that problem here in Ireland, it's bloody freezing here! :D

Ireland!! I am jealous of you!!! Beautiful place :D

Yeah I suppose it is, in a damp and gloomy sort of way :)

LOL! I'll trade you weather conditions any day!! I love California but the only thing I don't like is weather in winter like this. 85?? C'mon! I have cute warm clothes I can't take advantage of!
