I got my Guinea pig 2 days ago. She's a baby(not sure exactly how old she is) and her name is Pygsy! I'm first time pet owner. Since I got her she acted shy/scared all the time. Today, all of sudden she started running around like crazy. This is the first time I saw her running like this and it was shocking to me, and I started to worry.
Now she is in her "house" and she's been there for like 30minutes. Didn't come out to eat or drink water at all! While she was in her house she made a noise- I'm not sure exactly which one it is but it's one of these two: Wheeking, shrieking. She has her pellets, hay, and water so i doubt she is hungry.
Here is the video of her running today : Guinea Pig running crazy! HELP! - YouTube

If anyone can explain me why she did that.. or let me know if that's sign of her getting comfortable after 2 days being with me, I would appreciate it!! I'm worried. I LOVE my Pygsy!

Thank you in advance!

I believe that's her being comfortable with you enough to run laps around the cage. I'd suggest getting her some more room so she can run even more! (have you checked out the C&C cages on the home page for this forum?)

If the sound was wheeking, she was in all likelihood happy, and trying to get your attention. Were you rustling a bag or something? She may have thought she was getting some yummy veggie treat ;)

Awe! Shes being cute =) having fun! Those are the best times to see them enjoying everything around them. She is a quick bugger! LOL...

Ahh. Adorable. Love it when piggies run laps.

Don't worry! Running laps usually means they are very happy. :) So adorable! Thanks for posting the video, it's great to see pigs having fun.

The running laps is normal. Just blowing off excess energy. Are you planning to make a C&C cage for them?

Heehee my Abigail runs laps a lot, it always shocks me at first, but then I just laugh cause it's super cute :p Molly doesn't do it unless she's on floor time hehe.
She's happy, I'm impressed she's doing this after two days :D

Awww, she's a happy piggie!

Looks like you need to give her more room to run around in. :)

Just a happy little baby girl enjoying her new home! Get her out for some floor time, you won't be disappointed.

We change the inside of our piggies C&C cage every 3 days and everytime we do they start popcorning and then running around just like that. It means they are super excited and happy. Now worries! :)

Also, I hope you know that Guinea Pigs don't just eat Hay, Pellets and Water.

They need fresh fruits and veggies to keep them happy and healthy.

But about the running around:

Completely normal. Do not worry about it. Typical Guinea Pigs DO run "Laps" around the inner walls of their cages. If your Guinea Pigs WEREN'T doing this, then something would be wrong. It is a sign of happiness.

Also, you really DO need a bigger cage (no offense) Guinea Pigs shouldn't have to live in such small, cramped cages. They require more space to live to the fullest. The C&C Cages that are shown on this forum are EXCELLENT cages. Guinea Pigs all love them. And, they are extremely easy to make. (Not necessarily finding all of the materials, but it is so rewarding for your piggie!)

Loving your piggie! It is SOOOO CUTE!

We say that about all pigs, BTW. All piggies are uniquely special. Including yours!

:)

I agree with all the previous posts...your piggy is having fun and showing her happiness as well as burning off energy. Have you seen her popcorning yet? if she's a baby, you'll be amazed at how high she can get off the ground! Congratulations on your new addition! and as above, you will need a bigger cage...

Too cute. Our little girl runs laps too. She has a path she seems to stick to when she is out on the floor.

Totally normal. It freaked me out, too, at first. :) Also, my pigs were frozen for pretty much the first day home, but they warmed up slowly.

Have you considered a larger cage? I had the exact same cage, and my pig would run into the wall when she got going too fast.

@sillylittle Yes, I've checked cage on the homepage on this forum. Unfortunately, I don't have room to get 2x4 cage. Only 2x3 can fit, and i'm planning to get it in a week or so. About treats; I didn't buy any treats yet, because I don't know which ones to get. The only store I can purchase stuff is pet smart. I need to do a re search on what kind of treats are healthy for her
@CavyMama @veronicaxmm Yes, I want too get a bigger cage. I'm not sure if i'm going to buy it straight from this website or get all pieces that I need(hard to find) and make it by myself
@grace&piggies I read that I shouldn't be holding her for a week. She is still scared of me
@guinnymom23 I think I saw her like jumping to the side once quick but i'm not sure if it's popcorning or just running/maybe scared
@Zuidy She is not drinking water as much as she did for the first two days, though. I got her for 4 days now. Also, she is eating pellets but they are not alfa alfa pellets :/ Only store I can buy stuff is pets smart and they don't have exactly alfa pellets. They only got pellets for adult pigs. Pygsy DOES NOT want to eat fresh veggies or fruit :( I'm worried about that.. I do put vitamin drops in water. For past two days I leave her small amount of veggies in cage and an hour later when i check on her, it's still there! I tried to give her veggies/seeds/ by hand(I'll post a video of it) and she just smells it and that's it. However, dried veggies from "All living things - Guinea pig daily diet, bought at pet smart) she eats them! I don't know if I should stop letting her eat dried veggies from that "daily food".. but then she won't have to eat any veggies(since she doesn't want fresh ones). I'm surprised she wants to eat from my hand but she doesn't let me touch her.
To all of you, thank you :)

Here is a video of me try to give her fresh veggies, and dried veggie to eat(carrot). She refuses fresh veggies, just like past 2 days. She didn't eat any fresh veggies since I got her.

Hopefully someone can give me suggestion what to do. If anyone has any particular questions about her, feel free to ask me!

Hi, You may be able to order pellets and hay from online, Kleenmama, oxbow, and sweetmedow farm are the best. She doesn't need any vitamin drops in her water, they taste bad and can turn her away from drinking, and don't really do anything. The best treats are things like basil, cilantro and other veggies. There is a whole chart in the nutrition section at the beginning. I don't like the selection at pet smart or pet co so I order things like food, hay and toys/houses online. Amazon has a great selection of toys. Hope this helped.

Guinea pig doesn&(broken link removed)t want to eat fresh veggies - YouTube

I am really surprised she doesn't like fresh veggies...our Fifi who we just got yesterday already has eaten: romaine lettuce, bell pepper, kale, and dandelion. Have you found out the types of veggies that are safe yet? also, as mentioned by Squint96, drops are hard to deal with since you'd be changing the water every 2 hours, try veggies high in vitamin C?

Our new pig didn't want any fresh veggies either. I finally started dicing cilantro and putting on her pellets, but she doesn't like cilantro. Then I offered her red leaf lettuce. It took a couple of days, but she started to munch on it. It is still slow going though after two weeks. She eats the lettuce now, nibbled some cucumber and gobbled up an apple slice. I suggest starting with one or two veggies and continue to offer it to your piggy. Ours also doesn't like cold veggies, so you may want to set the veggies out before you give them to your pig. It just takes time. Hang in there.

Keep trying with the fresh vege. She will eventually get the hang of it. In the mean time, offer unlimited hay, fresh water (without vit c drops) and fresh lettuce (no iceberg).

The vit c drops aren't good and are pretty useless because they dilute in water and make it taste funny, which is why she might be drinking less of it now.

Welcome to the forum!

Only offer lettuce, cilantro and bell peppers until she eats them, then start introducing other veggies. NO carrots, fruit, etc until she takes those three staples. Ditch the vitamin C drops, they make the water taste funny and degrade quickly. They aren't worth it. As others suggested, you could try ordering your pellets and hay online, or see if Petsmart has Oxbow.

I am glad you are upgrading her cage! She is just the little ball of energy and I am sure she will be quite entertaining with all of that space! I would personally get the materials yourself as it tends to be cheaper, but if you don't feel like you'll be able to find the materials then the online option is good.

As for doing some research, check out all of the "stickies" at the top of each sub forum, and just read through some older posts as well. The search feature can be quite useful if you have something particular you would like to know.

guinealynx.info (medical references) and cavyspirit.com are some great sites for doing some reading on the basics.

Again, hello and welcome!
