Are long hairs/albyssinians any trouble grooming wise? I am thinking about getting a friend for my young piggie and the new guy is a long-haired with lots of whorls... any advice would be great since I am still in the thinking stage!

They just require a bit of extra brushing and bathing, that's all. You can have fun styling their hair! Or you can even cut their hair short to keep maintenance down. Hope this helps! =)

Grooming/long hair/piggie do's

Do you have long-haired babies?

Actually I don't, but I have a friend who does. (As of now I just have an American and an Aby mix.) She says they really don't take all that much extra effort unless you plan on showing them. I had the same questions as you! Plus, the piggies are pretty, so it's worth the bit of extra attention! =)

piggies with lots of hair

This baby I am looking at may actually be an abby mix (did some research since initial post) so not an actual long-haired/silkie pig. Anyhow, thank you for the replies - it helps!

Awww, how cute! Well, good luck with the piggies, no matter what breed they are! =)

My piggy baby is an Abyssinian. She has hair going every which way and along her hiney it sticks out extra and looks like a tutu....part of her charm and part of why I picked her :)

This is my first GP so I haven't had any others, but so far she hasn't needed a lot of grooming. Every once in a while I see a little bit of Carefress sticking to her , but she usually shakes that off!

We went ahead and got the new wild-haired piggie yesterday evening - he is white with a patch of caramel-brown on one eye! Cute as all get out. Named him Popcorn. So far he and our other young male have gotten along fine (a little good natured dominance behavior by our older male, but nothing serious). Popcorn has yellow-stained bottom fur (I am assuming urine?) - anyone know how to clean that up?

My pig is and Ab. He is no more difficult to take care of than my American tri-color.

In fact, he loves it when I mess with all the whirls in his hair. I picked him b/c of how ridiculous he looks!!! He has a hairdo only a mommy could love!!! Ha Ha Ha

I trim his hair around his bum when it starts to look too long, but that's very seldom.

I got a peruvian(long haired everywhere) and i gotta brush him everyday or he gets mad knots in his fur.As for my ab's,Their not to to bad they just gotta get their butt haired brushed lol.

I am new want to talk?

I have a cavy and his name is Calico Pete. I named him that because my uncle pete just died. Calico Pete is a long haired cavy and he love to be around people. I am saving all my money to by a cage and a mate for him.

I am new want to talk?

I just got a cavy and his name is Calico Pete. I named him that because my unle pete just died. He is a long haired cavy and he loves to be around people. I am saving all my money to get him a new big cage and a mate.

um may i ask why you posted it under grooming????????????????

Yikes! Don't get him a mate, unless you mean another male buddy. He doesn't need a girlfriend. He will be perfectly happy with another male.

Cassandra, why not check out the cages on this site? They are much cheaper, and so much better for your cavy.

You can find anything you need to know about GPs on this site. If you have any specific questions, look through the forum. Usually, if you are posting something you want to make sure it goes with the thread. If not, start your own thread so that people will find it, see it, and reply to it. It just makes it easier on everyone, especially you, so that your questions are answered.

I hope I didn't sound mean, that's not my intent. I had to learn all that, too, when I first started using forums.

Best of luck,
Marie
