Hello, everyone! My dear friend Laura recommended the forum here as a good place to hang out and get all sorts of advice on my cavies, so I wanted to stop by and introduce myself!
My name is Jessi, and I currently reside in Lawrence, Kansas with my girlfriend Lindsey and our animal family - two cats, seven fancy rats (all does, living in a HUGE ferret cage and running the entire household!) and of course, our two guinea pigs, Mint and Reese.
Mint and Reese are both rescue pigs. Mint was the result of an 'accidental litter' (I'm sure we've all heard - that- one before), and fit right in the palm of our hands when she was abandoned for adoption at only three weeks. Her birthday is April 5th 2006, and she's a lovely tortoiseshell-and-white silkie with quite the attitude!
Because she was so small and the rest of the pigs (save her brother) at the shelter towered over her, we wound up waiting about a month after Mint to get our second pig - once she had a chance to grow up a bit! Our second addition to the family is Reese, who is a tortoiseshell ridgeback and the ringleader of the two! She was also born in early April, although the exact date is unknown - so we will be celebrating it the same day as Mint's! She was also adopted from the same shelter as Mint.
Although I had done an immensely huge amount of research before getting Mint and Reese, I still learn new things - many new things! - every day, and having guinea pigs is a joy because of it! We'll finally be building our new C&C cage next week, an L-shaped 2x4 cage, which is part of why I keep getting drawn to this site! I'm extremely excited about it, however, and I know the girls are too!
Obviously, if you couldn't tell by the above, I'm an animal lover through and through. My cats, rats, and pigs are the greatest loves of my life, and I can't imagine not having animals be such a part of my life!
Anyway, I leave you now with some pigtures, taken during their last bath time! I'm really glad to be here, hoping to learn a whole lot more about piggies and get to meet everyone else's as well!
Mint in the front and Reese in the back during bath time. Mint hates baths, but Reese seems to have a good enough time in them!
Mint showing off her long, long hair!
Then we managed to catch her in mid-wheek during the drying process!
Reese looking like a spiny little hedgehog!
Nearing the end of the drying process - by now, Reese had had more than enough!
