i was buying hay and pellets the other day and spotted a magazine all about guinea pigs! it's a special issue put out by Critters USA in the popular pets series. i really wish i'd had this when i first got my girls. it has sections on everything from health care and diet to training and housing, and even mentions C&C cages. if you see one, i highly recommend picking it up. (and of course it has adorable pictures!)

A couple of articles are really good, a couple are really bad, and the others are mediocre. Save your $10 and read GL and CavySpirit instead.

I heard it was bad. Those magazines have stuff on breeding, showing and ads from breeders and such, as well as promoting items that are bad for guinea pigs. I think Teresa and others were misquoted too.

i hadn't read the sections on breeding and showing...i just skimmed to the sections on diet, training, and housing. i don't think that this should be discounted as another "breeder's mag" because it really does have some useful information.

I think it is a good idea, but like Salana said just save your money and read www.guinealynx.com and www.cavyspirit.com

Lilipution, I went through the magazine (except for the showing article, I just couldn't stand to read that) and marked it up, correcting everything that was wrong. There might have been one or two pages that weren't all marked up, not counting the Oxbow ad.

It even included Kirstin Key dissing on C&C cages as usual.

Yes it is. ONE article on breeding ruins the whole thing. It's a breeder's magazine.

I am not a fan of Kirstin Key because of some of her other statements regarding cavies, but I wasn't aware that she has bashed C&C cages as well! Tell more, Salana!

I don't have the mag, but she is held as an authority on a few yahoo groups about gps. If you want direct quotes and emails, you can look on there. I am still a member, but I don't visit them anymore. Too many breeders and people buying from pet stores.

She basically says gps don't need 8 square feet, who has space for that? Us humans need the space more.

The quote I saw basically affirmed her breeder status and I know she's stated that she has many, many guinea pigs... too many, in my opinion, for her to ever be able to care for properly.

Ah, she toned down her nonsense for the magazine. She's saying "oh, pigs are so SCARED in big cages! You should start them out in teeny tiny cages and gradually increase the size!" She recommends something like 12" x 18" to start with.

I have not seen the magazine myself, but have heard about it plenty on gl. If I remember correctly, T was very misquoted in that magazine. It makes me wonder how many other contributors were misquoted as well. You can definately find much better advise on this forum or on guinealynx any day of the week.
