I know about the anal sac, but can someone please tell me where the grease gland is and how to clean it properly?

One of my boys is rather greasy, I just give him butt baths (dunking his butt in water and soaping then rinsing) I don't worry about it for my other pigs

The grase gland is in the centre of their rear end. It can get crusty sometimes so like dagwell said give it the occasional wash

OK thank you. It's amazing what you learn on here

I tried giving my guinea pig Coco a butt wash to help with the grease spot, but it really doesn't do anything. The grease just repels the water. One question, should I even be trying to wash it as it is a normal thing for them to have?

Yes, it needs to be washed when it gets greasy. One drop of dawn or palmolive will help rid the grease.

Ok thanks, I never thought about dawn, good idea! But I am just wondering why it needs to be washed? In the wild they wouldn't do anything about it right? Is it bad for them? Also why does it get so greasy, my other pig doesn't seem to have one at all (although it must be there). My guinea pig with the grease spot is the dominant guinea pig, does this have anything to do with it?

I just got my first boar on Saturday, I don't hardly know anything about grease glands or anal sacs yet but give me time and I will be an expert. I do know about sows though, lol.

I feel like a horrible pig mom but i have never cleaned my little boy's anal sac/grease gland before..how often should this be done, and does him being neutered change anything? My guy is about 2 years old (I think?). Please don't hate me :(

What special care do sows need?? Gosh I feel like such a bad "mom" now :( I'm still just learning about everything...

Okay, well I noticed that Coco's grease gland was getting really big and really greasy so I decided to wash it today with dawn, and no matter how much I washed it, it will not go clean. Is it okay to cut away all the hair in that section so that it can grow back less greasy??
