I just got some fresh ones this afternoon. I'm steralizing them now. I'm hoping the boys enjoy them.

I am sure they will take interest... I hope. Are you baking them?

Yep, I even gave them an extra 20 minutes. To make sure I got all the sap. So, 50 minutes all together. I won't be giving the pine cones to the boys until tomorrow though. Got a cage clean tomorrow.

I never would have thought of pinecones for piggies. How do you sterilize them and bake them?

Ooh, I forgot the tempature. They go in the oven for 30 minutes to steralize and then you let them cool. Some pigs like them and some don't. You can also buy them online.

You bake them at 200 degrees.

I never would have thought of pine cones either! I'll have to remember to pick some up and give it a try.

You just have to make sure you bake them in the aloted time some times more. You want to make sure you get them sanitary and that you get the sap dried out.

Are "pine"cones from any coniferous tree ok, or just the ones from pine trees? I've got access to lots of smaller cones from trees in my neighborhood, but no immediate access to pines.

Too bad I don't still live with my parents - they have pinecones that can sometimes grow to 6 inches long and 4 inches in diameter.

That might be enough to scare my piggies!

wow i never knew that you could feed your piggies pine cones does it matter what kind they are?

I went classic pine tree.
