So I am tired of the barn smell!! I found 2 100% polyester fleece blankets intended for a baby shower gift that I forgot to deliver (about a year ago!). I'm not thrilled about the color but if it works like everyone says then I'll search for better colored fleece. I am on the first wash right now. I have adult pee pads that I will use under fleece for now. I will start to collect old towels from friends and family or freecycle. Other than the washing and drying 3x, is there anything else I need to do. We are expecting babies, any day now, so I want to get everything all set up first thing tomorrow morning. Or would it be best to wait until after the delivery?

I have 2 years only with piggies, but what works for me is :

-Fleece, yes, sure! Best I tried!
-Kitchen/litter box under hay-rack.
- I made squares out of fleece/towels/waterproof barrier/fabric that I put in their huts and places they normally go poop and pee.

My boars smelled bad during puberty but now it does not smell at all if I change every week, and poop-scoops every day.

I also wash the coro with a water-vinegar mix. Seems to work fine, inexpensive and green.

Hope this helps>

Congrats, by the way!

And babies. Like, more than one? At once? You're blessed, all the best to you, daddy, piggies and babes.

I have 4 boars and fleece is the best thing ever. I have a litter box with hay in it in each pen, it is covered by a fleece tent so they can hide and they spend most of their time hanging out in there. However if they want to come out they have 2 other hidey homes and a huge fleece floor to play in, plus another hay bin. All four seem to love it an I have no issue with smell at all. I clean out the liter boxes and any wet hay in their bin 2 times a day and search for any wet puppy pads under the fleece that might need to be changed and that's it.

So I have the fleece installed and they seem to love it. It was a bit tricky getting the bottom level fixed. I left the room to go get something to hold the sids up w/ and found Talloola burrowing under the blanket!! I scooted her out and clipped the sides up. The kitchen is located on the L-shaped top level. Tiffany who is expecting babies anytime now is laid out in the litter box. I was worried if she could heave-ho her self in becaue she is soooo big, but she did it. SO FAR SO GOOD!! Thanks for the advise.

You won't regret going fleece, for sure, my boys love it!!! I also only do a complete cage change once a week, and I never smell it, unless of course I really get up close to it, ha! Mine are mostly going in their litter/hay boxes, so works really well. Congrats, can't wait to see the babies!!!
