Interesting Side Comment

I watched the movie Super-Size Me. For those of you who haven't heard of it. This gentleman decided to go on a strictly McDonald's diet for 30 days. 3 meals a day even his water was from the Golden Arches. Anyway to make a longer movie short. He started out in great health and by the end of the month his cholesterol had skyrocketed to dangerous levels. His sugar and salt levels were through the roof, he felt miserable most of the time and actually felt better after eating McDonalds (which proves its addictiveness). He gained 24 lbs. Among other things his libido plunged on the 5,000 calorie per day diet.

The relevant part to us is that his fiance is a vegan chef. And it took him 14 months on a completely vegan diet to lose the 24 lbs he gained in 1 month. Most of this was from saturated fat. Vegetarians and vegans get a very small amount of saturated fat which will help you stay away from things like heart disease. Which kills more people a year than smoking and is the leading cause of death in the United States and abroad.

Also Ron Burgundy was an awesome movie! haha

I only saw some clips, and read about it. All I can say is wow. At least it's getting the message out.

About the Vegan thing...
My mother is supporting me somewhat through being vegetarian and vegan. I've totally cut meat out. I didn't take it gradually, I just couldn't. I've been meat free(but on day 4 or so I accidently took some spagetti meat sauce) since December 16th, and if I say so myself, I feel so much better. I'm slowly going Vegan though- my mother buys chocolate and just plain soy milk all the time so we always have that on hand. I've been thinking about the comments on this thread, and I'm not going to be just "half" of anything, like I said. I'm going full vegan and vegetarian. I know just eating salads is not going to help me at all, which is why I've been eating other things... Hah. Any food that has a lot of protein which isn't fish or meat? I'm not a big fan of tofu, maybe it's because it was in the soup and not alone.. I'm going to try to find some tofu, some veggie burgers, ect. Next time I go to the grocery store with my mom I'll be sure to ask her about that.
I really want to see SuperSize me. My brother said it was disgusting. I don't think anyone else in the family has seen it.

Of course there are plenty of foods! :) Look at your grocery store, near their organic products (it could be with soy products, too)--that's where you'll find fake meats and all that good stuff. I don't really love tofu, either. Try getting some Balance bars for snacks, a quick breakfast, lunch, etc. They're high-protein, totally vegan energy bars that taste good for once! They're like candy bars, and come in many flavors. Also, try looking around on some sites for ideas, like www.bocaburger.com, www.lightlife.com, www.vegcooking.com, etc. www.goveg.com has lots of good tips as well. Good luck!

I've been vegetarian for seven years and recently went vegan. I've found it a lot easier than I thought it would be. My parents are quite supportive although my dad didn't really understand why I wouldn't eat honey. I've found loads of websites and I've found myself experimenting with cooking a lot more, which I'm pleased about because I never used to be able to cook.
