many people i know who have wonderfully healthy piggies give each of their pigs fruits every single day. on here, ive repeatedly been told not too. but, other than the fact that they have too much sugar, is there any other reason not to give them a bit of fruit every day?

somebody? anybody?

I usually give my pigg one fruit every day. I usually rotate slice of orange, next day slice of apple, next day 1/2 plum, next day a tiny bit of pear, and sometime straw berries. But I give them very tiny slices and plums are little plums. I usually give my piggy fruits on Monday- Friday then on Sat and Sun only veggies. I don't know if I am doing anything wrong. But if I am I could always switch to every other day.

I gace my pigs apples one day, and yesterday they each got a whole strawberry!! They LOVED it and ate every single bite! lol it was cute. But note...if you have light colored pigs, don't freak out when you go to scrath their chins and there is a blood stain near their mouths! lol...I FREAKED OUT when I saw that and I frantically searched her mouth...inside and out (that was a job in it's self! lol) and then it dawned on me...strawberries...lmao. It looked like she had a little watered down blood on her...like she had tried to wash it off of her...it looked like blood washed off...*shivers*

ok, but is it ok to give them a bit every day? especially fruits high in c?

certain fruits like cantaloupe and strawberries have so much vitamin c, id feel so much better about how much they were getting if i could feed them this.

I have no clue- I used to give my guinea pigs fruits and veggies every day and all my pigs were very healthy. They all lived to be at least 5 years old. Now, I give my piggies fruits every other day, sometimes two days in a row if I have to go grocery shopping for more veggies and don't have much left. I haven't fed my guinea pigs strawberries in forever, I don't know if they like them!
I've heard that since plums are pitted fruits they are supposed to be avoided. Is this true? [I've never given my pigs plums]

the actual fruit is ok, only the branches of pitted fruits should be avoided.

Oh ok, thanks for telling me that. I was wondering for a while if I could give plums to them!

i give my piggies a small piece of fruit everyday, i just make sure to rotate it. same as anything else... variety is your best bet.

i rarely give my piggies any fruit at all.. it's cuz they don't like them very much.. ^^

I personally feed all my pigs a little fruit everyday, I cannot see any harm in it, but I have know piggies that have eaten apples, and pears in particular in excess and have had mouth ulcers (scabby mouth) through it. Please bear in mind they were eating fruit in excess and to much of any good thing is bad for you

Kiwi fruit, oranges, and tangerines are all OK for your guinea pig and are high in vitamin C!

thanks all. i wont be feeding them fruits with their salad, but instead giving it during lap time. it was going to be my tactic of letting them to like me more. i want to be consistent so they know if they sit patiently for a little bit, they will get a treat, so thats why i wanted to know if i could feed a bit every day.
