Hi, I am getting a friend for Molly this weekend. The mom and 2 baby girls are currently in a foster home (with rescue group). Since they are not coming from a shelter, is it necessary to quarantine the baby before introducing her to Molly?

Secondly, what veggies can I feed the baby to ensure that she gets enough calcium as she will be eating the same hay and pellets (Oxbow) as my adult Molly.

What else do I need to take in consideration when adopting a baby. And any special instructions for the introduction to Molly would be great. I have read everything I can about introductions, but just wondering if anyone has special tips for me. I have never had a baby guinea pig, so just wondering what to expect.

Quarantine depeneds on the rescue. Some will do their own but others do a check over and if things look ok they place them up for adoption. I would do one anyway if your not sure if they quarantine them first. They need to be in there for 2-3 weeks (I think).

As for veggies, I really I don't know. I've always just added alfalfa either by hay or pellets (never both).

You'll need to baby proof the cage, thats a must.

Thanks canadiancomforts, I will do that. For quarantine, I will keep the baby in a store bought cage that came with my first pig.

Thats should be fine for a few weeks. I know lots of people who do that.
