Okay,I am very excited to be getting another piggy at the end of next month but I need lots of advice from people with exrperince.

1. What have you found is the best way to introduce them. I am a little worried now that I know I have a boy instead of a girl. I heard they dont get along as well.

2.How big of a cage do you have? Right now I have a 2x4 but I was thinking maybe adding a 2nd level ~ 2x2 maybe? I just know that they need lots of room.

3. How many hidey houses, food dishes, waterbottles, hayracks any of that stuff should I have? Will they share or do they each need their own?

Any anwsers to any or all of the questions would be greatly appericeated (sp?) Also any past experinces with two boys would be awesome! Thanks so much !

First of all, congratulations on getting a new pig!

1. total myth that boys dont get along as well. just rember to go through the quarantine period

2. 2x4 should be fine for two pigs, in fact, it will be quite substantial. but if you have the materials to make it larger, then by all mean make it larger. after all, the bigger the better

3.hidey houses - at least 2
food dishes - most can share
waterbottle - some share, some like to have their own
hay rack - share

hope i was at least a little bit helpful!

This is a common myth, that boys don't get along. They can and do but it always depends on the pig.

I have 2 sows in a 2x4 with an upper deck of 2x2. It is plenty big for them, they race around in it and have no problems going to the second deck.

It really depends on the pigs, if they will share. I have 2 hidey houses and a fiddlestick house for the two girls. There is also a hidey spot behind the stairs and next to the hay rack. I only have one hay rack but I have two waterbottles, 2 dishes of food. Now, in another cage (a 2x3 with a L shaped 1x3) I have another 2 girls. They share a waterbottle and food dishes fine. I still have in 2 hidey houses, a 3 sided house, a hammock and the spot beside the hay rack and behind the stairs for them.

Here is a good link too, for introducing two guinea pigs. Adding a Second Cavy

I might have two water bottles anyway, just in case, then you also have a backup if miss filling it up one day. (not saying you will but...) Is your piggy territorial? I would also recommend three hidey houses because then they each have a house and there is 1 neutral house (at least at first) I think one food dish would be fine, if they don't get along you can allways buy another one. 2x4 is great but if you can, go right ahead and add more! Girls sometimes don't even get along so it just depends on the pig but make sure to quarentine him before you introduce him (even if the vet says he's not sick, you never know)

I have a female who i will be getting a friend for, how do you introduce them?

(Psst--read NoVeil's link!)
