I am going to try to adopt a buddy for my single male pig tommorow, at a local adoption event. Is there a good way to judge compatibility? If I put the pigs together and they do not fight for several minutes, is it safe to assume they will get along fine on a permanent basis?

First you need to determine whether your pig is dominant or submissive.

If you have a dominant male then you need to ask the shelter for a submissive male. If he's rather submissive, you need to ask for a dominant male. If you're not sure whether he's dominant and you dont want to chance it, your best bet would probably be to adopt a piggie that is knowingly submissive to the staff at the shelter.

If you explain your situation, Im sure they would be more than happy to help you find a submissive piggy.

I am going to an adoption event tomorrow too, in Durham, Connecticut.

If the pig comes right up to you and is curious and inquisitive you know YOU have the right match. But follow what All4Cavies said about choosing one that fits your pig.
