Has anyone noticed that foods, bedding, litter, puppy pads, etc. for cats and dogs cost way less for the same product if its marketed toward small animals? A tiny bag (maybe two-three pounds) of litter from oxbow (marketed towards guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.) costs twenty dollars, and it wouldn't even fill my piggie kitchen, and lasts about three days, if that. A 30 pound bag of cat litter costs about 27-35 bucks depending on the brand and store you buy it from. Why is this? Is it simply because companies can get away with it because people think exotic pet products should cost more, regardless if it's the same as a cat/dog product or of the same worth? I can get a 40lb bag of wood pellets for about 4 dollars for my pigs, but if I buy litter made for guinea pigs, it's WAYYYYY more expensive.
