I was grocery shopping today and noticed that they use a lot of parsley underneath other veggies as a display. The store manager was walking by at the time so I asked him what they do with the old parsely and if I could have it for the pigs. It turns out they give away what they call "trim" all the time. He gave me the name and number of the produce prep guy and I'm supposed to call the store tomorrow morning. They will save me a whole bag of trimmed stuff from lettuce and other veggies. They have several regular pet owners who pick up some and the rest is composted. I'm so excited to have a free source of food!!!

Try this at your local store!

That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

was it a local store or a chain store? if it was a chain store, which one was it?

Farmers Markets will often let you pick through their bruised or unsellable stuff for free as well. It is usually fine for piggies and all you have to do is ask.

It was Pavillions (aka Vons or Safeway depending on where you live).

Thank you SO much for the tip!! I am definately going to try that; we have two stores plus a little farmers market all very close (and tons more if I wanted to drive another five minutes) that will probably let me have some. I never thought of that! And we just bought a new car, so the extra savings would be very helpful!!
