I was spot cleaning my gp's cage a little while ago and on the food bowl i have under the water bottle I founda bug crawling on it. I killed the bug but is that a problem? I am not sure what kind of bug it was. Should i do anything to my gp or his cage? Please Help!!!

can anyone help me?

CLean the WHOLE cage to make sure there aren't anymore.Start spotting REALLY well until you are sure it was just that once.

We really can tell you if it's a harmless bug or not unless you describe it. What colour was it? How big? Could it fly?

It was a whitish/clear color and kind of round or oval. It could not fly. It wasn't a tick or a flea. I think it was bigger than a flea and smaller than a tick. I am not sure what a mite looks like, i don't know if that is waht it was.

No, you can't see mites.

Maybe lice, you can see them, but they're very small and longish.

You could check your pigs' fur to see if they having any bugs on them. Especially check around the eyes and bum areas, close to the skin.

Ok i don't think that it was lice. I am going to check his fur tomorrow and change his cage.

I found this bug in my pig cage. Do you think it is a problem?

(broken link removed)

Yewww That is a potato bug, I think, and they can't hurt humans, not sure about piggies, but I doubt it.

kind of a funky looking little thing, huh?

I don't think that is waht my bug looked like but i didn't get too close to it. I really hate bugs! I don't know if that would be a problem or not.

Maybe it was one of those poisonous bugs whose venom enters the air after you squish them and you die a long and painful death....Seriously, RustBottom, I advise you to seek medical attention immediately...

It wasn't actually on my guinea pig. I had him outside the day before and i think it got on some of his stuff and came in with it.

holli'smommy, that isn't like any potato bug we have in Ohio, YUCK!!!

This bug thread is too funny! I think its fine. Bugs happen. Check over your cavy and your cage for any more bugs and take a deep breath.

Also, that bug picture is hideous! Forget about squishing it with a shoe, get a brick!

Good luck!

I really don't think it is a potato bug, but it sure is as hideous and alien looking thing like the potato bug is! Although it probably is not harmful to the piggies, in fact maybe the piggies are harmful to it! Just kidding, but this bug thing is funny, and yes bugs happen and hardly any are deadly to people and piggies.

I was just kidding. I thought the thread about the bug was funny (because I was imagining scary large bugs in my cage) so I posted a potato bug picture. It came from (broken link removed) not my cage. Check out the site, it's a crack up.

i sometimes have ants in their food bowl and baby spiders under the fleece that i can never seem to get rid of no matter how much i clean...is this a big problem?

I have recently (last few days) had a problem with ants in the coroplast. Ants won't hurt the pigs but they are a major nuisance. I am bombing my house to get rid of the ants as it is getting warmer, the ants are coming in and aren't welcome at all. The girls are in a temp cage situation until after I bomb the house. Don't worry they won't be here when it's done, they will be at my parents for 2 days and all their things will be taken outside to prevent the fogger poison from getting on any of their things or the hammies things.
