I am very interested in adoping from a guinea pig rescue in the Northern VA area. I was thinking a neutered boar, as I have 2 sows already.

My cage space now is a 2x3 and plans to add a 1x2 or 2x2 loft. I cannot expand out anymore, so adding a loft is my only other option. I'd like to have the kitchen area up there, so they will have the whole bottom as floor space.

What do you think?

Too small. You don't count the upper level towards the space. I have 3 females in a 2 x 5 and it's okay for them. Anything smaller would be too tight. I have two Texel females in a 2 x 4 and that's just okay for them with their size with all of their fur.

A 2x3 cage is the minimum for 2 pigs, but 2x4 is reccomended. Lofts don't count in square footage, and actually count against it. If you are adding another pig, I'd suggest expanding to a 2x6, then add the loft of instead of a loft for the kitchen area, just make a litter box out of coroplast and slide it in. Can you fit a 2x6?

But good luck, hope you can get the addition!

I can't fit anything unless I take my desk out of my bedroom, and then I have no place for my computer, hamster or a place to pay bills (hey that would be a good plan...

I have a very small bedroom and with a full size bed, medium size dresser(and that's just for pajamas/undies etc, the rest of my clothes hang) 30 gallon fishtank, nightstand, and a 2x3 cage it's very full. I have about 1.5 ft on either side of my bed to walk around it and then, maybee 10sq feet at the end. That's all my available floorspace.

Bummer. I've fallen in love with the idea of another piggie :(

What about a 2x5? Or ad least a 2x4?

I'm trying to figure out the same problem! :(

I have a 2x3 with a 1x2 loft. I had two young boars (one just passed :guilty: ). I bought the 2x3 thinking that seemed huge compared to what I know people keep piggies in...as they grew I started to see why bigger is better. I have decided to expand before the adoption event next weekend (hopefully Fat Albert will leave with a new friend). I'm hoping the 2x6 with the 1x2 loft will not smell as bad as the 2x3 (I am OCD and I can smell them...even with completely changing fleece and u-haul pads 2 times a week AND litter boxes w/ hay on bottom and loft!)

Can you go up? I've seen some impressive multilevel cages. I might be attempting multilevels for my niece who has limited bedroom space as well. Good luck!!
