General Foot spurs?!

I noticed yesterday my guinea pig had spurs on her foot, i looked up on the internet about them and theres alot of different opinions, i know i need to cut them off but do i need like a solution to clean it with and will it hurt when i cut off and do the actual spurs hurt? iv been trying to put it off until i knew some more but if its hurting then i want to do it as soon as possible.

I just trim them off with the nail trimmers (I use the scissors type), but not too close to the foot pad.
