I just adopted an 8 week onld pig. He of course is on Cavy Performance in quarintine. My other 2 are on Cavy Cuisine. My ? is, after quarintine is over, what do i do? If I put them together he'll eat the cavy Cuisine and he isn't supposed to.

I asked this same question and was told to mix it 50/50.

okie dokie

Anyone else?

Yup, she's right, 50/50.

Make sure the hay is alfalfa mixed with grass hay (timothy, bluegrass, etc.) 50/50 as well.

Wouldn't that put the older pigs in risk of Bladder stones?

It is always possible. But almost every person I know (rescues) mixes the hay/pellets for mixed age groups. I don't see a problem in it.

Thank you. I'm seeing how he's doing playing along with the older piggies for a bit. They aren't having any problems. They are sharing except Piglet is getting curious why the "Annoying little bugger" is following him around. lol

If he is in quarintine he should be in a seperate room. No contact with the other pigs for three weeks.

Oops. Let me go do that now. Why is that? Like how he can't be with any contact for three weeks?

Because if he is sick or carrying something (URI, mites, lice, fungas, etc.) it can be passed to the other pigs. You need to be weighing him every other day-every three days and checking that he is gaining every time. If he is sick you will notice it in this three week period. Read GL's quarintine page.

You need to wash your hands and cover up your shirt when you contact him. Always contact your pigs first, him second, with a wash and a shirt/apron change inbetween.

Would a 2X2 be big enough for quarintine?

Yes, a 2x2 is fine just for quarintine.

Thank you

This line added because it was too short

uggg I'm too full of ?'s tonight :p

I don't have any extra coro so if I put down 2 or 3 layers of towels under the frame, could that substitute?

That would work.

OK thank you soo Much!

If you have two adult pigs and one baby pig then mix the pellets 2/3 cavy cuisine and 1/3 cavy performance. The same with the hay, mix 2/3 grass hay and 1/3 alfalfa.
