The last few times I've been to the shop to buy the piggies veggies I've noticed some big leafy greens packaged as Spring Greens. Can pigs eat these? They look just the type of thing my piggies would like :)

I buy mixed greens. Its a variety of different lettuces. My piggies love it.

Mine eat the spring greens too, they are fine. Just feed the white/purple stuff in moderation.

Are you sure cause it's not near all the other lettuces in the shop, it's near all the vegetables. BTW if it helps the shop is ASDA.

Ok thanks, there is none in there though :p

Oh, really? Mine usually has it in there. I think it's kale.

You could always buy it and tell us what is in it. It's most likely safe and you boys would be happy to have 'fancy' food.

The white and purple stuff is probably raddichio. Kale is curlier, dark green and waxy looking. They use it in small pieces to garnish plates in restaurants. Percy doesn't like the texture of the kale and raddichio tastes rather peppery.

Your right, it is raddichio.

Well I got some today and just took a picture. I've been told it's a type of cabbage.

Hmm. Looks a little bit like Collard greens to me, which are fine. But if it is a type of cabbage that's not too good as that can cause gas and needs to be fed in limited amounts if at all.

Does look like collard greens to me. Mine don't particularly like them. This is "spring mix", probably what we imagined:

Yours look like the ones I just bought Slap. I got them in a 1lb carton from Costco for $3.49! Percy is a very happy piggy. We picked up a 6-pack of romaine heads as well for the same price. Costco is my friend for piggy veggies.

Yeah I've been trying to find pictures on the internet and they do look like Collard Greens. I must have got lucky cause my pigs gobble them down :p

My pigs hate collard greens but they love turnip greens and mustard greens. Yesterday I was so lucky, I went to the grocery store and got 3 pkgs of organic mixed baby greens and 2 pkgs of organic mixed spring greens for $1 a package. They are about to go out of date (store date) but they stay fresh for up to 2 more weeks if you wash and rinse and store them properly. I have gotten them like that before but only 1 or 2 pkgs. One of the stores drops the prices on all their bagged and container veggies/veggie mixes when they get close to the store date but it's hard to get the baby greens and spring mixes because they are usually sold out by the time I can get there in the afternoon. I can usually always find the bagged stuff for $1 and often get them leafy greens, romaine, italian mix and once in a while I buy the european mix. The Euro mix has iceburg, romaine, red/green leaf, endive and radiccio and I pick out as much as the iceburg in it I can.

Oh you're so lucky Ly, mine HATE mustard greens but they are so cheap over here.

Kale can only be fed in moderation? ...Great... *softly speaks to self* crap.

Someone told me it was high in Vit C and could be fed everyday. Oh well, The last I used Kale was 3 days ago... I just ran out, and it only lasts about 3-4 days for three big bunches anyways.. But at least NOW I know.

When I can get Kale, I give it to my pigs daily but in very small amounts, like 1/3-1/2 leaf per pig. It is a great source of C but it has a lot of calcium in it as well.

Okay, so then that was where the white pee stains were coming from...

My leafs that I get are huge, but I don't give them like a full one... Maybe 1/3 or 1/2 a leaf per day... But I'll cut down to 3-4 times a week. (Every other day)

Speaking of Costco...It looks like they have a lot of fresh fruits and veggies for really cheap! I saw mangos, pears, kiwis, strawberries, grapes, papayas and pineapples!
