So, I know that food bowl tipping is a pretty natural thing for piggies but I seem to have a bit of a unique problem with it. I have two female piggies, Abby is two and a half years old and Mary Margaret is just about a year. Our habit has a raised tray with a hole cut in it for the food bowl to rest in- three inches of food bowl hangs through it with a not even half an inch tall lip that is above the tray. Recently, Mary Margaret has learned how to bite the lip of the food bowl (when it's full), lift it out of the hole and knock all the food into the bedding. I've seen posts about getting weighted bowls and such, but we had purposely bought this setup so that the food bowl was built in to save room. I'm grateful for any suggestions on how to either stop Mary Margaret from this behavior or how to rig the bowl so she can't tip it.

What cage do you have or how many square feet is it? Pet shop cages are too small for guinea pigs, even the rabbit ones.
I don't have any ideas on how to stop them as its something they have learned to do and know how to do know; from what I know the only way would be to get a Ceramic food bowl. You shouldn't have any problems with a ceramic food bowl.

Your cage is likely way too small for 1 guinea pig.
I use ceramic bowls because all the cavys I've had like to stand on the lip of the bowl.

RodentCuddles MrWhistles How can you assume the cage is too small? The OP only said the pellet dish is a clip on to save space, doesn't mean the cage has to be small.

Storyteller Ceramic bowls work well for that. I have one pig who will bite at the bowl and try to drag it to where he wants it. He's strong enough to drag the ceramic bowl, but never tipped it.
If you still want the clip on type, try something stronger, like this one.

I have heavy ceramic bowls and have a female that uses her teeth to put the bowl on it's side which usually means it ends up tipping over. The only thing I've found to keep her from doing that is a low lipped, thick glass ashtray. It's never been tipped over. I tried a plastic bowl that was tapered so it was wider on the bottom but another one of mine would carry it around the cage.

Many mornings I would wake up and Salem would be under his dish. Silly Pig! I bought a hay and food combo feeder and never had a problem after that

I'm not assuming that the cage is too small, I just asked how big is there cage or how many square feet?
And I was simply meaning/saying that if they have a pet shop cage then it is more then likely to small for her guinea pigs even if it is meant for rabbits; Not that they have one and it is too small.
I never said their cage was too small, please don't say I did something when I didn't.

I didn't read the whole posting and went off RodentCuddles reply. Also, when I read habit(misspelling for habitat?), is where I assumed this was a pet store cage. Anyone who has a C&C cage doesn't refer to it as a habitat. Even if they have a midwest habitat, most would rather have the supplies in hand than order online unless absolutely necessary.
