Since I just realized that sheet metal probably rusts, is there anyway to get Linoliem sides to stand up on their own like a box or the coroplast? I want the cage to be like a 2 piece C&C cage, but by the looks of pictures, the linolieum looks perminatly secured to the grids. I'm trying to keep the cage cheap and simple. If all else fails, we'll probaby do a Bin cage, even though I really don't want to. Please answer soon, I'm going to adopt my 2 pigs soon, and need a cage!

i think the lino is too flimsy to be made into a box. You could could strips of lino, roughly 5 or 6 inches high, then poke holes in the strips, and then with cable ties attach them to the cubes. It sounds complicated, but it really isn't! They would do the same job as coroplast sides - keep the bedding and hay inside.

Safe?

I hear from a friend, that linolium isn't safe because pigs tend to chew it. I don't want anything that can hurt my pigs. This cage stuff is getting very frustrating. It's at the point that my parents want to house them in the big tubs (a no-no) or not get them at all! I thought the C&C cage was suppose to be "Cheap and easy,"? I can't find any of the materials, and when I do, they are WAY overpriced! I checked out the "I found my materials..." But the same places here, they don't have it, or are out of town! All I need is about 38"x64" peice of coroplast or similar, SAFE, material.

You can cable ties the 4 corners to make it holds like a box.

I can't find ANYTHING either. Some ppl are just messed up. LoL
I searched everywhere for those stupid cubes and coroplast, but no where to be found. So I'm not going to waste my time looking. So I went out to Home Depot and bought like a Mixing Flower Tub thing. It' sawesome, I'll poste some pics when I get them. It's really good.

Lots of Love,

Em

I bought my 1 1/2 x 3 ft tub at Big Lots for 9$! We drilled 9, 1 inch holes in the long sides (sides only 1 ft high), and my dad removed the plastic from the middle of the lid and replaced it with Wire for good ventilation. We just got our pigs 1/2 hour ago and they seem fine. We made a hay rack out of some wire (so I know their hay isn't soiled) and they have a large, oatmeal cardboard tube with an oven mitt as a cozy (they allready like it and they both fit perfectly.) When they get bigger (only one month old) we are getting another tub and doing the same, but connecting them with a large PVC pipe that they can run through. Right now they are eating :p Welcome home Missy and Molly! Once I get pictures, I'm posting :) Yay! I want to show them off so bad!

Molly has a black head with a white stripe on her head and her body is kinda a black and white mix. Missy is white with a gray ear, gray feet, and looks like she has cowlicks all over her! It's like 100 mini mohawks all over her body! So cute! Missy will probably be longer and bigger (like her Dad) where Molly will be smaller (like her mom) Yay!

The size of the tub isn't adequate for one pig let alone two. You need something bigger.

Once they get bigger, we are adding another tub. The cage size will be about 9 square feet. According to this site, 7 1/2 is fine for 2 pigs. Right now their cage seems plenty big for now, once they get big however, we are upsizing it. They are still adapting so we don't plan to do anything major for a little while untill they are comfortable. Thanks for your concern however.

buying Coroplast

I was having a hard time finding Coroplast also, until I found https://www.harborsales.net . The price of shipping is too much on the 4'x8' sheets but you can buy 24"x36" pieces for a very reasonable price (including shipping) and taping them together is not difficult.

Only one local business even knew what Coroplast was, and they were not willing to sell me any. :(

I know what you mean.. The home depot by us had some they get for free with the products they buy, but they wouldn't give us any! Even the piece we found, that they wern't using! Oh well, we ended up making a cheaper cage that will eventually be bigger then the first one we planned on! The pigs love it too. My white Pig, Missy, is allready doing laps through her tube and around her cage! We got her and her sister Molly, just today! I have pictures posted of them and the cage in "Cage chat."

For all the people who can't find coroplast, check this site for a store that's near you: www.fastsigns.com. They order any color for you and it's in the next day, $15 a sheet. Good luck! =)

people who say they cant find corplast in america or Canada need to actually look.Any sign/art almost every hardware store will sell coroplast as for cubes every Walmart sells them off and on so always keep looking back to see if they have any.For an alternative to cubes you can use almost anything if you have enough supplies for walls.

You can use a bookshelf with the shelves taken out and put vinyl tiles in over the wood. I know someone who has done this and it works well! =)

Never even thought of the book shelf idea. How original. See...where there is a will...there is a way.

Another idea just occured to me: Why not use a large dog crate with a plastic bottom and wire sides? You could probably find some way to create a small wall around the plastic so bedding wouldn't fly out, and it should be easy to clean! JUst another of my odd ideas. Hope I could help! =)

I've used linoleum for my cage until I can find some coroplast. My GP hasn't really chewed on it. She has chewed on her pigloo and the wire grids but not the linoleum! go figure! As for attaching the sides, I just poked small holes in the sides and attached them using some twist ties....when she's in the cage she leaves those alone, when she's out she goes and sniffs them.

The only problem I've had with linoleum so far is that one corner was more round after stapling and left a gap that I've since filled because my gp almost tried to jump in the hole.....but I stuffed lots of crinkled newspaper there and she's never tried since.

glad you have your babies!!!
