I use yesterday's news for my bedding. Lately I have been getting flies. I din't think much of it because of the season but today i went in my room and it was absolutly infested with Flies. Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep flies form laying eggs in my piggy cage?

A cage shouldn't get flies if it's kept clean. It takes awhile for them to hatch and grow into flies that can then lay eggs. If you clean it out completely at least once a week then none of the maggots should have time to turn into adult flies and their lifecycle will be broken. Maggots shouldn't be able to live in a dry cage anyway. They don't eat dry paper pellets or dried droppings only wet paper pellets and wet droppings. Since guinea pig droppings dry very quickly(unlike my horses' stalls and manure pile) flies should not be an issue unless your going too long between cage cleanings.

I have gone 10 days and until recently I have had no problems...I will try cleaning it once a week.

I clean my cage totally every 2-3 days and I vacuum poops out daily. On the weekends, sometimes I vacuum poops out 2x a day. I change the litter pans every other day and fill with fresh hay. My girls get so happy in a clean cage...Em doesn't seem to care but after I clean the girls' cage, they popcorn all over and do laps.

I had this problem in the past too. I agree that it resulted from cleaning the cage too infrequently.
I would clean it out after 3-4 days- 2-3 times in a row. This worked for me to disrupt their lifecycle & get rid of them.
Once they are gone, you just have to clean it more often to prevent it from occuring again.
